Jonas Brothers, Cool [Photo Credit: Republic]Jonas Brothers, “feeling so cool,” continue their impressive comeback campaign with a ‘short, but sweet’ second single, “Cool.”

Of the Jonas Brothers’ highly-anticipated comeback single, “Sucker”, I stated the record was “a fine comeback… Thematically, the song is all about love, which is an incredibly relatable topic… The Jonas’ keep it straightforward and well executed.” Once again, Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas are back with another respectable single, “Cool.”

“Cool” keeps things short, period.  There’s nothing belabored or drawn out, as “Cool” doesn’t even reach the three-minute mark.   That’s no problem, because you know what is best paired with ‘short’? SWEET of course, and Jonas Brothers do their respective jobs of making “Cool” a ‘short, but incredibly sweet’ pop record.  How so?  Fresh pop production (drum programming, guitars, keys), popping vocals (falsetto included), and entertaining, tongue-in-cheek songwriting.

Nick Jonas shines from the onset, delivering a confident vocal performance, and even throwing a dash of profanity in on the intro, the eventual chorus:

“Lately, I’ve been feelin’ so cool

Top to the bottom, just cool

Every little thing that I do

Dammit, I’m feeling so cool.”

Okay, okay, dammit never damned anyone to the fiery pit (as far as we know) but this would’ve NEVER happened during the Bros’ Disney or A Little Bit Longer days.  Of course, Nick isn’t the only lead vocalist, with Joe Jonas providing contrast on the second verse, as well as delivering the ‘damn cool’ chorus himself.  Following a bridge by Nick, all of the Jonas Brothers get into the action on the final chorus because “dammit, [they’re] feeling so cool.”

Final Thoughts

No, the Jonas Brothers aren’t reinventing pop in the least, but “Cool” is another pretty cool return for the band of brothers.  It’s not innovative in the least, but as aforementioned, it features fresh pop production, popping vocals by both Nick and Joe, and entertaining, tongue-in-cheek songwriting (“Oh, I feel like Post Malone when I get home / Sittin’ there, winning like it’s Game of Thrones”).
