29-year old Guy James Robin, better known as English DJ and producer, Jonas Blue, always seems to be good for a hit.  Furthermore, he always seems to assemble some sweet collaborations. In the case of his latest single, “Polaroid,” Blue enlists the services of Liam Payne and Ontario-born, Nashville-based musician, Lennon Stella.  Like other Blue collaborations, the results are strong.

First and foremost, “Polaroid” features bright, optimistic-sounding production by Jonas Blue. This includes synths, guitar, and the beat itself.  Of course, Blue couldn’t do it without great vocal performances.  Liam Payne sounds incredibly clear on the first verse – his tone is superb.  The lushness of the pre-chorus section, vocally and musically is awesome.  It’s certainly an exceptional build-up to the groovy chorus.

“We took a Polaroid

You signed your name upon it

I put it in my wallet

Hoping I’d see your face again

We took a Polaroid

Captured the look in your eyes

It’s only a matter of time

Before it starts fading.”

Lennon Stella also appears on the chorus, but gets her own solo moment on the second verse.  She also joins Liam Payne on the second pre-chorus, as well as the chorus and the bridge.  The blend of the voices by Payne and Stella shines at its brightest on the bridge.

Final Thoughts

Will “Polaroid” change your life? Probably not, but that doesn’t keep it from being an enjoyable, well-rounded single from Jonas Blue, Liam Payne, and Lennon Stella.  The production and vocals definitely carry this ‘snapshot’ record.
