Joaicon, self-centered | Song Review 🎵

Dominican singer/songwriter Joaicon brings ample energy, fun, and middle fingers on his short but potent punk single, “self-centered.”

“Ican be me again.” Amen 🙏, 🎙 Joaicon (Joan Moreta)! That is a statement right there.  It’s also – wait for it – 🎵 “self-centered” 😜! And guess what? There’s more where that came from! “I wanna go out and / Yeah, I wanna be free / Free.” Oh, snap 🫰! The Dominican singer clearly isn’t taking any sugar honey iced tea anymore! Regarding his latest single, Moreta wrote on IG, “I hope you have fun with this song, I want to see y’all having fun with it and showing the middle finger to any situation that makes you feel uncomfortable.” Now that’s sounds like a mic 🎤 drop 💧 right there!

There is plenty to ❤️ about “self-centered.” Before Joaicon ever sings a note, the listener is blessed with a driving bass line and an electrifying groove.  Safe to say, both superbly anchor ⚓️ things down.  Furthermore, there is punk energy established – rock TF on 🤘. Early on, Moreta serves up honest vocals: “These lonely nights got me thinking / That we should take different ways / I’m tired of asking you for attention / I’m so sick of this toxic situation.” Yaaasss, Joan, let it out, and most of all, EXIT!!! Even though he’s transparent AF, his vocals are also fun and playful, by design.  Embracing himself (duh), Joaicon makes it clear, “Go talk about me with ur friends /… Soon you’ll find out I’m the best u ever had.” Throwing daggers, isn’t he? Iconic, as he describes on IG, the middle fingers are up to the skies: “When you try to come back / It’ll be too late / I’ll be in the streets / Kissing 😘 someone else.”  What more needs to be said? 🎵 “Self-centered” doesn’t require deep analysis.  Joaicon is crystal clear from the start ‘what it is’ and he is living it up for himself! A great F🤬CK YOU bop, post-breakup that anyone can get behind 💪!
