Jhené Aiko, "Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.)" [Photo Credit: Def Jam]R&B artist Jhené Aiko keeps it sensual on her second single of 2020, “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.),” featuring Future & Miguel.

“We be gettin’ so loud / That dick make my soul smile / That dick make me so damn proud…” On her first single of 2020, R&B artist Jhené Aiko certainly didn’t hold back.  How can you hold back with a single titled, “P*$$Y Fairy (OTW)”? Aiko is back with ‘another one,’ this one with the acronym, H.O.E. – “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.).” She’s assisted by a couple of Grammy-winning friends: Future and Miguel.

The lush production of “Happiness Over Everything” arrives courtesy of Fisticuffs.  As one expects from any Jhené Aiko song, the sound is – wait for it – quite SEXY.  Future kicks things off on the intro, where “Red roses damn near turn to ashes” and “These dirty blogs got your mind damaged.” Fair enough. Miguel takes the reins from there, handling the majority of the chorus:

“I hope she don’t think that I think that she some kinda ho
I don’t care, that just lets me know that she knows what she wants, yeah.”

Jhené Aiko enters the mix on the first verse, singing about sex – “That print in them sweatpants got me weak off in my knees.” Wow! It marks her biggest role as the lead artist on her on song as Future is the main attraction once again on the second verse.  He definitely raises some eyebrows when he gets ‘spiritual,’ rather, blasphemous:

“They misunderstood me when they say I’m Jesus Christ
I just want you to worship me, I like what I like
I’ll feed you to the wolves if you don’t talk to me nice
They gon’ try to crucify me
They think we worship ‘luminati
I take my heart and go hide it.”

Sure Future, sure.

Final Thoughts

Although more Jhené Aiko would’ve been nice on “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.),” it’s an enjoyable, sexy R&B track.  Aiko isn’t nearly as aggressive as she was on “P*$$Y Fairy,” but that’s a pro in my opinion.  Her friends, Future and Miguel, provide lifts, the production is superb, and Aiko does her thing as always.
