Jesse McCartney, Wasted [Photo Credit: Blue Suit]Jesse McCartney doesn’t reinvent the wheel on his single “Wasted,” but it’s definitely an enjoyable, fun, simple, and straightforward modern-pop record.

“You like to call me when you’re high / End of the party, I’m your guy / Thing is, I do this every night / And I don’t wanna come off impatient / But you only call when you’re…” Can you fill in the blank, rather the ellipsis? After releasing single “Better with You” earlier in 2018, pop singer/songwriter Jesse McCartney is back with ‘another one.’ Whoa, that totally sounded like DJ Khaled.  Anyways, “Wasted” marks McCartney’s second single, released about six months after the aforementioned record.  As with most projects from the former teen heartthrob (he’s still eye-catching, or so I’m told), “Wasted” represents another worthwhile moment for Jesse.

“Wasted” features modern pop vibes from the start.  The record shows its cards early-on, but there’s totally nothing wrong with that. The script includes elements of electro-infused pop and dance pop with the guitars, synths, and pitch-shifted vocals. As for Jesse McCartney, he serves up clear, commanding, and compelling vocals. Both the pre-chorus (aforementioned) and chorus sections are catchy.

“You only call when you’re wasted
You only call when you’re wasted
You only call when you’re
You only call when you’re wasted
(Wasted, wasted, wasted).”

Essentially, McCartney asserts that the only time that he hears from her is when she’s wasted… Pretty self-evident stuff.

Final Thoughts

Jesse McCartney may not bring anything truly groundbreaking to the table, but “Wasted” is an enjoyable, fun, simple, and straightforward modern-pop record.
