Academy-award nominee Jeremy Renner drops an enjoyable, respectable rock single with a cover of Sam Feldt’s “Heaven Don’t Have a Name.”
It’s always interesting when musicians and actors crossover. Some musicians make great actors, while some actors are also great musicians. In other instances, some musicians are horrible actors, and some actors are totally subpar musicians. Actor Jeremy Renner, unbeknownst to some, is also a musician. He’s captured some attention with the release of single “Heaven Don’t Have A Name,” which is a cover of the Sam Feldt song that he was featured on originally. As you can imagine, some are onboard, and others not so much.
“Heaven Don’t Have a Name” isn’t the first Jeremy Renner foray into music. In fact, the record marks Renner’s second single of 2019 following a cover of “House of the Rising Sun.” Interestingly, on “Heaven,” there are six co-writers, including Renner himself. In regard to the sound of the record, it features respectable production work, particularly the opening and later, the anthemic chorus section. Also adding to the respectability are Renner’s vocals, which includes dipping into a taste of falsetto on the pre-chorus. Say what you will, the man has a nice voice. Looking back on the chorus, it’s catchy – nothing objectionable there for the cynics to hate on.
Final Thoughts
So, how does a Jeremy Renner record stack up? All in all, “Heaven Don’t Have a Name” works without a hitch. No, Renner isn’t rock’s next big thing, but, he performs well overall. Haters gonna hate, but there’s been much, much worse than this pleasant rock performance.
