Jay-Z, The Blueprint [📷: UMG Recordings, Inc.]“I can’t see ‘em comin’ down my eyes / So, I gotta make the song cry.” Sometimes, songs that DON’T achieve pop success earn notoriety, nonetheless. A prime example of this is the beloved rap record, 🎵 “Song Cry” by 🎙 Jay-Z.  The 🏆 Grammy-winning rapper has attained ample chart success throughout his career, securing 22 top 10 hits, four of which are no. 1 hits 🤯. “Song Cry,” a single, mind you, was NOT a top-10 hit, nor did it chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s a travesty but the song crying is absolutely and utterly iconic, period.  The Bobby Glenn sampling gem from 💿 The Blueprint (2001) was nominated for the 🏆 Grammy for Best Male Rap Solo Performance, deservedly.  Hov is on autopilot on this 🎛 Just Blaze produced masterpiece – NO CAP 🚫 🧢!

fire sunglassesThe rhymes are ELECTRIC in every single verse, PERIOD!!! “We used to use umbrellas to face the bad weather,” Jay raps of his girl in the first verse, continuing, “So now we travel first class to change the forecast.” WOO ✈️! In the second verse, he credits her because, “You helped me get the keys to that V dot 6 / We was so happy poor, but when we got rich / That’s when our signals got crossed and we got flipped…” Of course, Hov goes on to take the blame – it was H-I-M, him.  By the third verse, it is clear she is over him. Even though he asserts, “I was just fuckin’ them girls, I was gon’ get right back,” he also acknowledges FACTS: “But once a good girl’s gone bad, she’s gone forever / I’ll mourn forever / Shit, I’ve got to live with the fact I did you wrong forever.” More than two decades later, the emotional, song crying of 🎵 “Song Cry” remains potent.
