Jay Warren, Felony Love [Photo Credit: BonFire]Rising contemporary R&B artist Jay Warren delivers a compelling, lush, felonious love-centric single, “Felony Love.”

“Your love has got me running / Like a bandit / Prisoner to your love girl / Can’t stand it / Caught you with my heart / Red handed, red handed.” Perhaps you haven’t heard his music yet, or perhaps, you’ve never heard of him, but there is a rising artist on the horizon by the name of Jay Warren.  The San Diego native, based in Salt Lake City, is best characterized as an R&B artist, but is inspired by a variety of genres, including hip-hop, rap, alternative, pop, metal, country, and blues. In other words, he’s eclectic, something that helps to make his music truly captivating.  Early on in his career, Warren has earned critical success with his debut single, “Closer”. He should be able to extend upon that success with his love-centric new single, “Felony Love.”

Jay Warren“Felony Love” commences silky smooth with lush, relaxed production work. The sound definitely ‘set the tone’ for the entirety of the urban contemporary ballad.  Following the warm introduction, Jay Warren ‘blesses’ the track with superb, fully invested vocals.  He spoils the listener with a truly potent falsetto, chocked-full of ‘felonious’ love. In addition to his brilliant pipes themselves, the vocal production is a sight to behold (rather hear) in its own right.  Besides his standard pipes, the vocals are layered with some alluring studio effects, furthering the effectiveness of the performance.  The key lyrics:

“Felony love

Crimes of passion, lost control

Felony love

All my judgement overthrown.”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, vibe, vocals, and ample love carries “Felony Love.” This is a good old, tried-and-true slow jam that is perfectly suited for Jay Warren’s vocal abilities.  While the talented singer doesn’t reinvent the wheel, or R&B itself, he successfully makes the case for himself as an artist on the rise.  Sure, “Felony Love” could’ve used a bit more tempo, as well as a smidgen more variation to make it more distinct, but more often than not, there’s plenty to rave about.
