Jay Rock, Redemption [Photo Credit: Interscope]Fresh off successes with “King’s Dead” and “Win,” Jay Rock continues his stellar year with “The Bloodiest,” the third single from his third album, Redemption.

“You either with me or against me, ho!” That’s that heat – the cockiness and confidence – that Jay Rock brought to the mic on “Win”, the second single from his forthcoming album, Redemption. Okay, so what was the first single then? Technically the best song from Black Panther the Album Music from and Inspired by, “King’s Dead”,  featuring Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake. What more can you say but damn to that group of studs… as in star-studded.  Puns and utter stupidity aside, Jay Rock drops the third single in advance of Redemption, “The Bloodiest.”

“Bitch where? Tell me you a real one, bitch where?” “The Bloodiest” retains the toughness exhibited by the preceding singles from Redemption.  On the first verse, Jay Rock exhibits a relaxed flow, yet he still packs a punch and ample ‘real talk.’

“I’d rather rob than get a job, don’t insult me / Remember it was nicks and dimes in ‘03.”

If the first verse and the dark, sketchy-sounding production weren’t ferocious enough, the aforementioned hook serves as the catalyst for a more agile, pronouncedly more hard-nosed second verse.

“Battle scars and tribulations, downfalls from the situations / I bounced off with dedication, accounted for my participation…”

Safe to say, he goes “H.A.M.”, eventually closing out the record with a repetitive, though entirely fitting outro.

Final Thoughts

Does Jay Rock “win” again? Of course, he does! Three bangers in, Redemption is off to a good start. “The Bloodiest” benefits from its excellent production and it’s hard-nosed, honest rhymes from Jay. “The Bloodiest” may not necessarily be ‘the rap song to beat’ in 2018, but there’s plenty to like and respect about it.
