In 2020, 🎙 Jason Derulo surprisingly earned renewed success. Not being the least bit cynical, but honestly, it seemed like the odds were stacked against Derulo earning another no. 1 hit.  Nonetheless, he did so with “Savage Love” with 🎙 Jawsh 685 and 🎙 BTS.  He returns once again in 2021 with another new single, 🎵 “Lifestyle”.  This round, however, he enlists 🎙 Adam Levine for the assist.  So, does “Lifestyle” end up being magical – another potential chart topper? Read on my friends, read on!

Unsurprisingly, Jason Derulo makes sure we know his name on the intro (as if we didn’t know it).  Anyways, he proceeds to sing respectably, bringing swagger and sex to the table (“Always be fucking up some comma-mas / Oh girl we notice, your body the coldest”).  He does nothing that’ll blow you away or surprise you, but as always, his voice remains strong.  One the second verse, Adam Levine ‘keeps the same energy’ – “Can’t get your lipstick off my collar-lar / You do that thing that keep me calling you.” Basically, if you hear either of these two artists, you can easily recognize their voices.  That said, like Derulo before him, Adam doesn’t do anything game changing or out of the ordinary.  Beyond the vocal performance, the production by 🎛 Rice N’ Peas is successful though again, nothing earth shattering.  We get an okay chorus as well – not THE chorus of 2021, though.

Final Thoughts 💭

So, I asked the question, ‘does “Lifestyle” end up being magical’? The answer is no.  Jason Derulo sounds good but doesn’t bring anything new to the table.  Adam Levine sounds good but doesn’t bring anything new to the table.  The sound of the record is enjoyable enough but again, there’s nothing particularly new that stands out.  Merely okay; more forgettable than not.
