Jason Derulo returns with single “Colors,” otherwise known as the Coca-Cola® Anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Some musicians make great albums with great songs. Other makes great, or at least respectable records and less memorable albums. Jason Derulo is that records guy. He has a number of enjoyable, memorable hit singles, but even his best albums are less noteworthy than the records themselves. Unsurprisingly, Derulo is great choice for a sporting event anthem. In this case, it’s “Colors,” the Coca-Cola® Anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
“Colors” is your typical Jason Derulo song. It features sleek production that exemplifies the modern pop sound. While Derulo sings soundly, his voice isn’t necessarily the draw of this particular record. No, it’s the overall vibe – the sound of the record as opposed to the soundness of Derulo’s instrument. That said, “Colors” checks off boxes in regards to a catchy, spirited chorus. Speaking of spirit, this is the perfect record for a sporting event, hence checking off more boxes.
Final Thoughts
Question: Will “Colors” change your life? No. As aforementioned, this is a sleekly produced modern pop record that’s not unlike so many songs Jason Derulo has served up in the past. It’s inoffensive by all means, but it’s NOT the second coming by any either. Maybe generic is too harsh, but there’s little about “Colors” that jumps out at you listening to it.
