Jasmin Stone screen shot from "Time" (official Music Video)

4 out of 5 stars

“Time is not our friend, my dear.” Right on! Time – there’s just so little of it in a day, in a lifetime, etc. Hopefully for Israeli singer/songwriter, film composer, pianist, and producer Jasmin Stone, it’s just a “matter of time” before she breaks through stateside.  Stone has an impressive résumé (she’s been honored with various awards), but she’s not well known YET in the United States. Let’s hope that changes and quickly!

What makes Jasmin Stone so special? She offers something different and different is what the music world is starving for these days, particularly stateside.  In a time where conformity and trendiness seem to be the M.O. when something nonconformist comes along, it’s a blessing. In other words, yes, we are calling Jasmin Stone’s “Time” a blessing. Amen!

“Time” appears off of Stone’s 5-song EP, Echoes, available via Bandcamp.  Though the track and music video are brief two-and-a-half minutes in duration, it’s a thrilling two-and-a-half minutes.  From the opening of the video, the listener is immersed into an enthralling ride – quite a sight to see.  Musically, “Time” is also captivating thanks to embracing the theatrical and exemplifying that “dare to be different” vibe (to quote Hunter Hayes’ “Invisible” of course).

So what’s the premise of the music video “Time?” A dark fairytale to put it simply. The full description of the narrative of the video is as follows:

A bunch of dark fairies put a spell on a young man, and one of them marries him while he’s asleep…The singer (his girl?) tries to touch his heart, but only the angel of doom can set him free from the spell. Everything happens in a strange magical forest – the trees are covered with colorful little jeewls, toy-like snakes are hiding in the grass, fairy dust is in the air.

Watching it, one can’t help to be intrigued, not to mention a bit surprised…disturbed…something along those lines! “Time” should definitely be the song and video that makes you want to indulge further into Stone – she’s “got next!”
