So, without further ado, in the 25th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2024), we highlight “Space Cowboy” performed by Jared St. James.

Jared St. James, Space Cowboy [📷: Jared St. James]“Used to get high every time I got the blues / Get in my starship, listen to my tunes.” That’s a mighty high, James St. James.  The eclectic Montreal singer/songwriter continues singing, “Til you brought me down / Where are you now?” It seems the cowboy – specifically, the space cowboy – is gone on “Space Cowboy”, a song that brilliantly fuses alternative, country, and pop.  The moment you hear this track, you’re drawn to it because it is unique – it sets itself apart.  St. James penned “Space Cowboy” while Emily Jacklin produced.  Not only are the songwriting and production on-point, but James’ vocals are marvelous too.

pride heart burst“I can understand that you need space / But there’s a blue light in my face / It’s blinding me…” BLINDED BY THE LIGHT! Again, I can’t stop going gaga over the lyrics! St. James serves up so many highlights. He often cites how his cowboy changed him.  Also, he references how they’ve gone in different directions. “Didn’t call me when you got back,” he sings, continuing, “I tried to let go but I lost track of time / I guess you did too.” How often does this happen in a relationship for whatever reason? Some more significant lyrical moments are also relatable. “Transmission’s live / I can see you now so far away,” he sings, continuing, “You’re in the sky, Space Cowboy / And I’m going down tonight.” 💔 😢 Also, how about the recurrent, “Giddy up, it’s a bumpy ride / Can you hear me now? / Space Cowboy.” “Space Cowboy” isn’t a jubilant cowboy song but the talented James St. James pens and performs a memorable, special song that easily makes me beam with Pride 🏳️‍🌈.
