Janet Jackson returns with a surprisingly contemporary, comeback single with “Made for Now,” featuring Daddy Yankee.
“If you’re livin’ for the moment / Don’t stop, and celebrate the feelin’ / Go up, if you’re living for the moment / Don’t stop, ‘cause their ain’t no ceilings / Go up.” Janet Jackson is exuberant on her brand-new single, “Made for Now.” She doesn’t handle all the duties by herself – she enlists Puerto Rican singer/rapper Daddy Yankee for the assist.
Expectedly, “Made for Now” is characterized by its reggaetón groove and production qualities. This works out well for Jackson, even better thanks to more presence from the iconic singer/actress. While she is often mixed towards the back of the production, here, she sounds more powerful and much stronger being featured at the front. Daddy Yankee serves as her hype man essentially, though he also performs the third verse in Spanish. The best part of “Made for Now?” The catchy, enthusiastic chorus: “We’re made for now / Not tomorrow / Made for now / Look around.”
Final Thoughts
Will “Made for Now” change your life? No, but it is an enjoyable, incredibly catchy new single from Janet Jackson. Keep in mind, Ms. Jackson isn’t in her prime – she’s 52 now. She doesn’t sound like it on “Made for Now.”
