In the 5^th edition of Dance Hitz (2022), we totally get down with Jamiroquai performing the danceable, 1999 gem, “Canned Heat.”

Dance Hitz 🕺 💃 🎶 is a column that celebrates awesome dance songs from the past and present.  The records that grace Dance Hitz 🕺 💃 🎶 aren’t merely limited to music explicitly characterized as dance.  That means all genres of music – electronic, pop, rock, disco, etc. – are welcome as long as the particular song is associated with dance. So, what do you do when the times get rough? Do you cry? Do you pray? Well, everybody has their own way of handling adversity, trial, and tribulation.  For 🎙 Jamiroquai, their approach changed on the 1999 hit, 🎵 “Canned Heat.”  How so? Well, per 🎙 Jay Kay (awesome name, right?), “I used to put my faith in worship / But then my chance to get to heaven slipped…” Um, so, if it’s not prayer, what is Kay’s outlet – his fix for the bad times? Dancing, of course!

Woo, not only does that philosophy sound like a vibe, listening to this gem from the band’s 1999 album, 💿 Synkronized is a total vibe. “Canned Heat” is marvelous.  It’s groovy as albeit, hearkening back to the disco of the 1970s.  Even though it’s throwback (even for 1999), it sounds fresh and hella enticing.  Those athletic strings mark one of the best instrumental features.  Of course, it’s hard to pick the best feature when you have to decide between so many utterly sublime parts – fat bass line, autopilot groove, again, those strings.  And, what about those lit vocals by Jay Kay?

So, what’s the big takeaway from 🎵 “Canned Heat”? Honestly, we should all embrace the philosophy of dancing – positive, uplifting, and carefree vibes despite bad times.  Why live in drudgery when you could be busting a move at the disco, right? 🎙 Jay Kay and 🎙 Jamiroquai continue to shine on “Canned Heat” as it’s approaching 25 years of age.
