James Morrison, You're Stronger Than You Know [Photo Credit: Stanley]Soulful English singer/songwriter James Morrison taps Grammy-nominated pop/R&B standout Joss Stone for the electrifying “My Love Goes On.”

James Morrison is among the more soulful musicians to come out of England in the new millennium.  Despite being underrated, Morrison possesses a ‘sickening’ set of pipes as well as a catalogue with some terrific songs. Morrison returns in 2019 with a brand-new album, You’re Stronger Than You Know, which arrives in March.  Building some buzz for You’re Stronger Than You Know is promo single and album opener, “My Love Goes On,” featuring Grammy-nominated pop/R&B artist Joss Stone.

“My Love Goes On” features soulful vocals on the intro, which sets the tone for the record (“Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh”). Arguably, the vocal production itself leaves a bit more to be desired. I would’ve preferred slightly better recorded vocals. Regardless, both James Morrison and Joss Stone deliver electrifying performances. As a team, they are formidable, exhibiting excellent vocal chemistry. “My Love Goes On” is a true duet with both artists performing just about equally throughout its course.

In regard to form, “My Love Goes On” is relatively straightforward with intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, post-chorus (reprise of the intro) and later, a bridge. The overall production has plenty of worthwhile cues including organ, acoustic guitar, piano, and the soulful drum groove. The chorus is powerful and quite memorable:

“My love goes on
But when everything has changed
I’ll be the one thing that remains
My love goes on
But when you’re whole world has shattered
I’ll be the only one who matters
My love goes on.”

Beyond the stellar chorus, the bridge section is pretty awesome as well. Stone really lets loose towards the conclusion of the record which is magnificent.

Final Thoughts

So, really, the sole criticism of “My Love Goes On” is the quality of the vocal recording/production. Despite this, the magic that James Morrison and Joss Stone conjure up is nothing short of incredible. You’re Stronger Than You Know definitely gets quite a boost from this hella soulful gem.
