Jake Shears, Too Much Music | Track Review 🎵

Jake Shears kicks off his sophomore album, Last Man Dancing, with a surefire, infectious bang with single, “Too Much Music.”

“There can never been too much music.” Amen, 🎙 Jake Shears (Jake Sellards), you handsome 😍, talented man, you! Going back to the 2000s, 💿 Scissor Sisters (2004) was an epic album, particularly given how much harder LGBTQ + musicians were to come by. I remember, living in a smaller town, with fewer CD options, I had to order from Amazon! Shears is older now but (1) still handsome 😍 and (2) still talented,  sans 🎙 Scissor Sisters (their last album arrived in 2012).  After releasing his solo debut album, 💿 Jake Shears, in 2018, Shears is back with his sophomore album, 💿 Last Man Dancing, in 2023. Leading the charge is the infectious promo single, 🎵 “Too Much Music”.

From the first listen, “Too Much Music” is #GIVING, PERIOD! The production (🎛 Ryland Blackinton and Vaughn Oliver) is exuberant and spirited, which perfectly suits the voice and personality of Jake Shears.  That beat instantly makes you want to get that disco finger up and hit the dance floor.  Shears wrote “Too Much Music” alongside Blackinton, Oliver, and 🎼 ✍ Dominic Thomas.  There are plenty of fun, noteworthy lyrics such as, “Oh, I feel the sweetest salvation / Flowing through this heart of mine / I see the blooms of a budding spring / Your love, it makes me get up and sing.” Awe-inspiring! Basically, Shears informs us, we’ve arrived, baby – Let the music take control!

Final Thoughts 💭 

🎵 “Too Much Music” is a surefire bop, PERIOD! Jake Shears gives us love ❤️! He touts the power of music 🎶! Furthermore, he makes all of us want to dance 🪩, whether we can or not! Oh, and have I mentioned, he’s handsome 😍 and talented? Yes, thrice, I know!
