Pop artist Jake Miller returns filled with confidence, game, and swagger on “The Girl That’s Underneath,” the promo single for his forthcoming album, ‘Silver Lining.’
Jake Miller is back! The pop artist drops his latest album, Silver Lining on March 9, 2018. Ahead of Silver Lining, Millers gives us a sample with promo single, “The Girl That’s Underneath.” He’s assisted by rapper Jabbar Hakeem.
Beginning with the production, “The Girl That’s Underneath” is incredibly slick. The synths, the drum programming – Jake Miller has a brilliant backdrop to work with. As for Miller’s performance, he sings with loads of confidence, game, and swagger.
“She walks on red carpets everywhere she goes / You can find her, all designer from her head to toe / Out in Calabasas, she think she the baddest, yeah / But your heart is plastic, that shit ain’t attractive, yeah.”
Later, on the second verse, his swagger includes – ding*ding*ding – a f-bomb. Shocking! After each verse, there’s a pre-chorus, which sets up the chorus superbly. On the chorus, the crowning achievement of “The Girl That’s Underneath,” he showcases mad falsetto.
“Light up for all the cameras, pose for them magazines / But can you show me the side they never see? / I know you know you’re special, but if you’re feeling me / I wanna talk to the girl that’s underneath.”
Jabbar Hakeem drops bars on the third verse, contrasting Miller’s sung vocals. He doesn’t say anything particularly profound, but it fits the vibe by all means.
Final Thoughts
Once more, Jake Miller exhibits his talent. He has a great voice, and maybe more important to this particular record, swagger to the nth degree. “The Girl That’s Underneath” may not be game changing, but it’s enjoyable and solidly put together.
