In the 75th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️🌈 (2025), we highlight “touchdown” performed by comedian, content creator, and singer Jake Jonez.
Prepare to beam with P-R-I-D-E 🏳️🌈! Beaming with Pride 🏳️🌈 celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies. Here, we provide background and insight into musicians, analyze, plus go gaga over the decadent bops served up. When songs dictate deeper and more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is fully articulated. All styles of music are welcome, whether the songs are classics or brand-new. So, without further ado, in the 75th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️🌈 (2025), we highlight “touchdown” performed by Jake Jonez.
“I’m sexy, I’m cute, I’m popular to boot / I’m wanted, I’m hot, I’m everything you’re not.” From the start of “touchdown”, comedian, content creator, and singer Jake Jonez (Jacob Durham, presumably) brings ample confidence and swagger. At the end of a colorful intro, after describing how bitchin’ he is, he adds, “Who am I? Just guess / Guys wanna touch my…” It should come as no surprise that “touchdown” is G-A-Y! I mean, Jonez is part of those Mean Gays, after all! Durham and Carlton Dawson penned “touchdown,” while Josh Cobb produced it.
So, what makes “touchdown” a gay bop? Besides oozing with gayness, Jake Jonez is bold, playful, and, dare I say, sassy! Accompanying his spicy performance are equally spicy synths. The synths are noisy, hard-nosed, and in-your-face. The edginess feels appropriate given how gay Jonez turns the hypermasculine sport of football. “You say you wanna marry her / Then, why are you here with me?” he sings in the first verse. In the first pre-chorus, Jonez teammate “Snuck me out the back door of the bar / Right in your new Jeep Wrangler, baby, aren’t you a star.” Oh, snap! In the second pre-chorus, following the second verse, things get hotter: “(Night two) You fucked me in the back seat of your car.” Ooh-wee! And why wouldn’t he? Have you seen Jake Jonez? That body is bodying! Beyond objectifying our pop star, the chorus is the section to beat in all of its big, loud, and gay glory!
“Go tell your mom about me, you know I’m sticking around
I know you play the field, but I’m your touchdown
Baby, can’t you see? You’ll miss this, you’re out of bounds
I know you play the field, but I’m your touchdown.”
You’ve gotta love the football references! Notably, the bridge section is more legato, smoother compared to the verses and that bombastic chorus. Despite telling “Amber that you loved her,” per Jake, “Nothing ever felt this good on your lips.” Man-on-man love, you’ve gotta love it! Fun, outlandish, and most of all, gay, Jake Jonez continues to compel us with the gift of content. What a man, what a man, what a man, what a talented (and hot) man! “Touchdown” is definitely a touchdown. Maybe a couple of ‘em, some with two-point conversions 😜!
