Jack White, Boarding House Reach © ColumbiaJack White strikes gold once more with “Over and Over and Over,” the fourth advance single from his third solo album, ‘Boarding House Reach.’

Jack White is a longtime darling of the alternative music world.  He’s been successful as a member (and creative force) of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather. Also, his songwriting and production credits can’t be ignored either. In the 10s, White has gone the solo route.  Boarding House Reach marks his third solo album.  After dropping singles “Connected by Love”, “Respect Commander,” and the brilliantly chaotic “Corporation”, he returns with fourth single “Over and Over and Over.”

Like his previous singles, “Over and Over and Over” is chocked-full of attitude, energy, and groove.  This has a garage-, old-school/retro rock sensibility that instantly makes it sound refreshing and incredibly charming.  Maybe the record isn’t quite as wild as “Corporation,” but it’s close. Jack White still exhibits eccentricity, sounding more progressive musically. Sure, this effort has its retro-leanings, but it doesn’t sound like much of modern rock either, hence some more innovative spirit.  Vocally, he isn’t concerned about the pitch-perfect performance, but rather delivering a captivating and spirited one. White again works with an excellent musical palette, with standard rock instrumentation, as well as incorporating keyboards (synths) and background vocals.

Final Thoughts

As previously commented regarding “Corporation,” it sounds as if Jack White has become reinvigorated as a musician. “Over and Over and Over” continues to up the ante in an extremely successful promo campaign for Boarding House Reach. Here, he gives another top-notch performance (pitch inconsistencies aside) filled with spunk. Early indications suggest Boarding House Reach will be among the best albums of 2018.
