Jack & Jack, Stay with Me © IslandBack at it again, Nebraskan-bred urban-pop/rap duo Jack & Jack return with single, “Stay with Me.”  Notably, Jack Johnson drops more bars than previous singles.

Urban-pop/rap duo Jack & Jack continue to drop new music throughout the course of 2018.  Now Los Angeles, California-based, childhood friends Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinsky hail from the Midwest – Omaha, Nebraska. Their latest offering, “Stay with Me,” sees Jack Johnson drops more bars than previous offerings.

From the start of “Stay with Me, “it’s clear that Jack & Jack have a deeper message in mind.  As aforementioned, Jack Johnson has a bigger role, dropping two verses worth of rhymes.  On the first, he imparts the tale of a high school girl who isn’t looking forward to returning to school because she’s bullied.  By the end of the verse, Johnson sadly states, “She never even made it to the age of 18.” On the second verse, the narrative remains tragic – an unfortunate situation, bullying, and ultimately, suicide.

As for Jack Gilinsky, he lends his beautiful pipes on the pre-chorus, chorus, and bridge sections. The smoother of the pair, essentially, Gilinsky wants to remember her, urging her memory and spirit to “stay with me.” On the pre-choruses and bridge he sings:

“Even though I can’t see you now

I know that you’re around

And I don’t wanna be alone

But that I can’t control

Now I can’t seem to let you go.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Jack & Jack have their hearts in the right place on “Stay with Me.” Bullying and suicide are two topics that are extremely important to highlight.  Is “Stay with Me” flawless itself? No, not quite – the verses and pre-chorus/chorus sections could connect a bit better to unify the song even more.  That said, the pop duo has the right idea and a totally relevant theme.
