Nebraska-bred duo Jack & Jack – Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinsky – express their infatuation for a girl who’s nothing short of a ‘dime’ on single, “I Don’t Know.”
Urban-pop/rap duo Jack & Jack are back. Though now Los Angeles, California-based, childhood friends Jack Johnson (22) and Jack Gilinsky (21) hail from the Midwest – Omaha, Nebraska. The early twentysomethings fit right into the current pop trends with their latest single, the enjoyable, “I Don’t Know.”
The first thing that comes to mind when listening to “I Don’t Know” is swagger. Jack & Jack is chocked full of it. Jack Gilinsky comes out swinging, singing about love/sex and drugs.
“Oh my God, think I feel in love overnight…
You the shit, roll that wood
And let’s get high and lay low…
Go and lay it all out on the table, oh.”
Johnson joins him on the chorus, which is summed up by one line, “You were just somebody.” Gilinsky takes the reins back over on the post-chorus (depending on how you desire to label the sections). The effect of the post-chorus – J.G. is in love with everything about this girl. Johnson gets his moment in the spotlight on the second verse, which is rapping as opposed to singing. The profanity grows more profane, a perfect match for the sleek, moody urban production work.
“Oh my God
Looking like you, it should be a crime (you so fine)
You stuntin’ on all of these bitches without even tryin’…
You the worst, bad as fuck when we make love
For the first time I knew I would have
To put your ass in a verse
Hittin’ every angle like I’m Kurt…
Holyfield, holy shit, what’s the deal?”
Final Thoughts
Do Jack & Jack overblow the hotness of this hottie? Maybe, maybe not, but it seems that she’s a “10,” and they use plenty of game (and profanity) to highlight that. “I Don’t Know” doesn’t change the urban-pop game, but Jack & Jack do make a formidable duo. It’s built on clichés, but definitely worthwhile.
