Jack & Jack – Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson – follow-up single “I Don’t Know” with the less profane, slightly tamer, yet enjoyable “Closure.”
Urban-pop/rap duo Jack & Jack are back ‘sooner than later,’ after dropping single “I Don’t Know”. Though now Los Angeles, California-based, childhood friends Jack Johnson (22) and Jack Gilinsky (21) hail from the Midwest – Omaha, Nebraska. Their latest offering, “Closure,” is less profane and slightly tamer than their last.
“Closure” sports slick, urban-pop production work, which isn’t far-fetched from “I Don’t Know.” Jack Gilinsky sings an excerpt from the chorus at the top: “What’s the point in closure, when it’s already over…” Jack Johnson follows up with the first verse, which has bit more of a hip-hop tilt – pop-rap. That said, the tail-end of the verse is sung. Gilinsky returns to deliver the smooth pre-chorus:
“You got someone new don’t hit my phone
Sayin’ that you miss me, does he know?
It’s all up in your fears when you’re alone
Tryna talk the about where we went wrong.”
He follows up with the full-length chorus, continuing the introductory lyrics:
“…Used to be your shoulder, now I don’t know ya
What’s the point in closure, when it’s already over
I’ll be okay, okay, okay.”
Gilinsky goes on to sings the second verse, as well as the majority of the rest of the song. Jack Johnson takes the breathy outro, spoken in an undertone (“I’ll be fine, I’ll be good, so good, damn.”)
Final Thoughts
Once more, Jack & Jack deliver an enjoyable, well-rounded record. It’s not game changing, but the duo have exhibits tons of potential.
