There’s a hot, rising rapper from Kentucky and his name is Jack Harlow. He may not look the part of a rapper, but he proves he’s ‘got bars’ on “Sundown.”
If you haven’t heard Jack Harlow yet, you’re totally missing out. The 20-year old rapper from Louisville, Kentucky (shout-out my home state) doesn’t look like your typical hip-hop artist. No, there shouldn’t be stereotypes for rappers, just like there shouldn’t be stereotypes for numerous things, but Harlow definitely has the skills to fit the mold. Need a sample? What about his short, but hella sweet single, “Sundown.”
“Sundown” features a killer beat that’s incredibly rhythmic and groovy to the nth degree. Furthermore, the production is blessed with a keyboard loop that sounds like a mix of synth, accordion, and organ. The effect? Jack Harlow has that southern-rap backdrop, set in a minor key. Naturally, the kid eats it up. Harlow has an awesome flow. His confidence is infectious. Furthermore, he’s got Kentucky pride (did I mention I’m from Kentucky already?) and his wordplay is stellar.
Final Thoughts
There’s lots of rappers parading around these days. Some have it, and others not-so-much. The thing about my first encounter with Jack Harlow (Note: he’s released two projects 18 and Gazebo in 2016 and 2017 respectively) was that I knew he had mad potential. It will be exciting to see what this cool, Louisville kid brings to rap game. And for you folks who assumed Kentucky mostly consists of bluegrass and country artists, look at rapper/singer Bryson Tiller and now, look at Jack Harlow. Get on him – now!
