2020 has been a big year for Jack Harlow – understatement! The Louisville-bred rapper had a big hit with “WHATS POPPIN” as well as the star-studded “WHATS POPPIN Remix”.  Furthermore, Harlow has the honor of being selected in the 2020 XXL Freshman class – pretty awesome if you ask me.  He’s back with another new single, “Automatic,” which appears on the star-studded Madden NFL 21 soundtrack.

“Automatic, it’s a habit, you should know it’s automatic
I been gettin’ to it, I ain’t notice y’all was hatin’.”

Even before Harlow spits those confident, ‘automatic’ rhymes, the listener is blessed with some pretty awesome production.  The drum programming definitely grabs your attention at the onset with its animated rhythm. Automatic? Yes, “Automatic” commences with some ‘automatic’ juice – something like that.  As to be expected, the listener gets some mad swagger from Harlow following the instrumental intro. That swagger begins in the form of a chorus, which certainly runs on the long side – longer than your standard chorus at least.  Despite the fact that it’s wordy, the chorus does feature an electrifying, fast-paced flow, and some lyrical punches too.  Beyond the chorus, we get two verses from the ‘man of the hour’ which are successful without being game- or life-changing.

Final Thoughts

So, is Jack Harlow as ‘automatic’ as he asserts to be on “Automatic?” Eh. Overall, this is another banger for the Kentucky rapper (he no longer lives here, but we still claim him).  “Automatic” definitely ticks off boxes, it just doesn’t reinvent the genre or reach transcendent heights.  Still, it’s a winner.  The production earns it this honor all by itself!
