In an unlikely pairing, Colombian standout J Balvin joins forces with eight-time Grammy-winning dance standout Skrillex for “In Da Getto.”
S
ometimes, unlikely pairings can yield intriguing results. In my mind, it’s hard to envision Colombian artistIf nothing else, “In Da Getto” is energetic to the nth degree. J Balvin matches the energy of the production and sample like a C-H-A-M-P. He has ample swagger, highlighting the happenings of this turned-up party “in the ghetto.” No, Balvin serves up nothing deep or anywhere close to being transcendent, but the party vibes are infectious AF. Regardless of whether you speak Spanish or not, it’s easy to decipher what this two-minutes-and-change song is. Basically, this is a tropical Latin pop cut perfectly suited for the club… or the crib if you feel like turning up!
Final Thoughts
So, J Balvin and Skrillex. Does it work? Overall, the collaboration on “In Da Getto” is successful. It’s not game changing though, and I don’t necessarily see myself spinning “In Da Getto” for months to come let alone years. Good, though not great, but a definite vibe. #TurnUp!
