“Could’ve sworn I showed you love so crazy / But that’s not enough for my baby.”
According to R&B singer-songwriter Isaia Huron, “this girl wants everything”.  He concludes the first verse, singing, “They say love don’t cost a thing, but it cost me everything / So I stand on what I say, yeah.” Word. “This girl wants everything” is the third track from Huron’s sophomore album, Mr. Lovebomb.  Huron wrote and produced the song.

“This girl wants everything” features a soulful, sophisticated, grown-and-sexy musical accompaniment.  The sounds are lush and hearken back to the R&B of old, with some jazz music cues as well.  The harmonic progression is more varied than some of the R&B you hear in the 2020s as well.  The musicianship is on point.  That includes the vocals of Isaia Huron, who has a beautiful tone and marvelously brings the melodies and lyrics to life.  Speaking of the lyrics, that is the one element of “This girl wants everything” that is not particularly old-school. Huron is fine with dropping the n-word throughout the second verse (“Niggas get the chills when you walk by / And you handle ‘em all with ease, yeah, uh,” and “But always knew exactly how to get what you want from a nigga, don’t you?”). He makes his point loud and clear, as this girl knows how to work her magic, if that’s the right word.  The moment to beat is the chorus, which sums up this girl’s power over him:

“This girl wants everything

Not a little, but everything

She depend on me for everything, oh

This one wants everything

Like a wedding ring, and for me to change

But she’ll never do it, no.”

Even though she’s high maintenance, on the bridge, Isaia makes it known, “I don’t want no one else providing for you / And I’ma show you.” Mr. Huron drops an enjoyable, well-rounded neo-soul gem with “This girl wants everything”.  It’s classy, but it still has some stank.
