Isaac Dunbar, “Scorton’s Creek” [Photo Credit: RCA]Once more, Isaac Dunbar shows why he’s a rising star, despite his youth on “Scorton’s Creek,” which tackles matters of the heart.

“Insects wish the worst for me / And they befriend my enemy / And it shocks me / Oh, how it shocks me.” Sigh, the young but talented Isaac Dunbar has been quite impressive in 2020, beginning with the single, “Isaac’s Insects” and continuing with “Makeup Drawer”, a record that fit perfectly on my A Compendium Comprised of 100 Notable LGBTQ+ Songs. Once more, on the love centric single “Scorton’s Creek,” the youthful Dunbar shows why he’s quite the rising star.

“Scorton’s Creek” continues the genius of the wunderkind that is Isaac Dunbar period.  Another song written all by himself, he produces alongside Drew Pearson.  The backdrop, as has been the case with previous records, is alluring and well-rounded by all means.  “Scorton’s Creek,” fittingly, has a dreamy, lush sound, considering thematically, it encompasses love. “Let’s go to the tennis court / And take some pictures once more / I’d love to sneak a peek of you while you’re posing.” Young Isaac Dunbar seems to sing about falling in love, and all the reactions he has towards the person he’s in love with, or how he envisions the relationship. Unfortunately, the teen seems to understand the plight of love, crushing, and such at the end clearly:

“I don’t wanna say goodbye
I fear you love somebody else
But there’s no way that you can control how you feel
So, I’ll just have to learn between what’s fake and real.”

Final Thoughts

With each and every Isaac Dunbar release, listeners are witnessing, rather hearing, a rising star.  Furthermore, this teen continues to let us into his life, including an excellent coming of age song song like “Scorton’s Creek.” Sure, it’s short, but more importantly, it’s quite potent – incredibly effectively and highly enjoyable.  Once more, Dunbar delivers vocally, emotionally, and thematically. Slay Isaac, slay!
