4. Victoria Monét, “SOS (Sex on Sight)”
8. 42 Dugg, “N.P.O.” (Ft. Sexyy Red)
11.System Of A Down, “B.Y.O.B.”
1. Charli XCX, “B2b” (Ft. Tinashe)
Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat // Atlantic // 2024
“Back to back to back to back to back to back to back.” Ooh-wee, that’s seven backs! Charli XCX leaves no doubt what her song “B2b” stands for – back to back! It originally appeared on her iconic, Grammy-nominated 2024 album, Brat. “B2b” reappears, in remixed form, as the 12th track on Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat. Charli enlists the services of another sickening artist, Tinashe. “B2b” benefits from its seek production (Finn Keane and LIOHN) with an ill groove and bright synths. The chorus, excerpted above, is simple but infectious.
Beyond the chorus, Charli XCX delivers confident yet easygoing vocals. “I travel ‘round the world to fifteen countries in four days,” she sings in the first verse, adding, “I’m fuckin’ tired, but I love it and I’m not complainin’ / Oh, shit, I kinda made it.” Indeed, Charli! In the second verse, she moves beyond pitch to chanted lines, gassing up Tinashe (“‘Cause we made ‘em ‘Boom Clap,’ made ‘em get ‘2 On’”). Expectedly, Tinashe provides a fabulous guest appearance, ‘bringing the heat’ as always in the third verse:
“Boutta run it back
The way my ass look in these jeans, I’m boutta throw it back (Back, back)
When they see us out here winning, they get so mad
Now I’m feeling on myself, I don’t know how to act (Act, act, act, act).”
Word! “B2b” is the sugar honey iced tea! Notably, the remix is shorter than the original by nearly 30 seconds. It doesn’t matter – Charli XCX and Tinashe ‘do the damn thing,’ back to back to back!

2. GloRilla, “TGIF”
GLORIOUS // CMG / Interscope // 2024
“It’s 7 p.m. Friday / It’s 95º / I ain’t got no nigga and no nigga ain’t got me.” Woo! GloRilla (Gloria Hallelujah Woods) dropped a surefire rap banger with “TGIF” in the summer of 2024. “TGIF” = graced her 2024 debut album, GLORIOUS. In the refrain that follows, and sometimes precedes the infectious chorus, she spits, “Turnt up with my niggas / Turnt up with my bitches / …Sixty thousand fans came to see me do my dance / Got a million and one haters, and they all can kiss my ass.” Oh, snap! Chaii Beats produced “TGIF,” which thrives off a skeletal instrumental – a knocking beat and minor-key synths. “TGIF” samples “So silly !” by Koto. A top 40 hit, “TGIF” peaked at no. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
GloRilla is confident and unapologetic throughout “TGIF.” Her cadence and flow are electrifying. “Got a Backwood full of ‘Za and a bankroll full of bands,” she spits in the first verse, continuing, “All that, all that Twitter typin’, bitches see me and ain’t do nothin’ / Crop top with some biker shorts, I’m showin’ off my moose knuckle.” Holy shit 😳! She makes her fair share of sexual references whether it’s, “He love the way I sex,” or “I keep this pussy fresh / Yeezy shirt, I’m wet.” In the second verse, her confidence doesn’t cease, with “Fuck you mean? 40 inches, 6-13 / I’m lookin’ fine as hell (Woah), I’m tryna be seen.” Obviously! GloRilla thoroughly enjoys her “hot as hell” Friday night. Without a doubt, “TGIF” the song is also hot as hell. It’s a GLORIOUS banger!

3. HNTR ALLN, “DTF”
“DTF” // HNTR ALLN // 2024
“Like a little slut / Rough me up / You can tell I’m down to…” On his 2024 debut single, “DTF”, HNTR ALLN (Hunter Allen) comes out swinging. Rather, he comes out sexing… or willing to 😈! There is no hiding in the closet! Allen is bold with his sexuality. After growing up in a conservative, Christian household, he’s broken free from myopic views and restrictions and embraced queerness. “DTF” is sex-positive to the nth degree. The desire and lust are ‘turned TF up’: “Hugging you is like a poppers hit / Chemical the way I want your dick, daddy.” Poppers and dick? That’s so gay 🏳️🌈 😈. The lyrics are brutally honest, and that’s the biggest selling point of “DTF.” Backtracking before the poppers and D, “How’s it going? Fuck, you’re crazy hot / Took your shirt off for a dollar off baby.” Ooh-wee! After getting him to show off his banging body, he raises the temperature: “I can tell you’re really into me / Staring at me like a piece of meat eat me / Wanna taste the sugar / Dripping from your dirty tongue.” Fucking hot 🥵 😮💨 😈! HNTR paints a vivid portrait that leads to the crème de la crème, admitting, “You can tell I’m down to fuck.” Not only are the lyrics ‘fierce,’ Allen sings them like a champ. He takes a playful approach in this liberating, hyper-sexual banger. His tone is marvelous while his riffs and runs are celestial, even if his mindset is more hellish. The backdrop is ‘fierce’ too. The gay club is alive and well, soundtracked by sharp synths and a dance floor-ready beat. From the beginning of “DTF”, the tone is set and the sluttiness feels damn good. Infectious and naughty, “DTF” is the sugar honey iced tea – the soundtrack to freedom from the ultra-conservative, heteronormative, myopic world.

4. Victoria Monét, “SOS (Sex on Sight)”
JAGUAR II: Deluxe // Lovett Music, Inc. / RCA // 2024
“I need that SOS, sex on sight, baby, it’s urgent / Let me fuck up all your plans, come put this work in.” Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Victoria Monét is honest about her sexual desires in “SOS (Sex on Sight)”, a highlight from JAGUAR II: Deluxe. On “SOS,” she taps one of R&B’s sexiest musicians, Grammy-winner Usher, for the assist. Monét, Usher, Ant Clemons, Daniel Church, Ido Zmishlany, and producer Camper penned “SOS.” There is plenty to love about “SOS (Sex on Sight).” It benefits from a soulful, old-school sound. There’s nothing like lush instrumental accompaniment and a big, robust bass line. Monét takes the reins first. She never gets too high or too low. She delivers a well-rounded, cool-energy performance. After setting the tone in the first verse, she unveils the chorus, which features a tuneful melody and memorable lyrics:
“I am way too sexy
To be alone
Wanna show you what type
Of time that I’m on (What type of time I’m on)
Want you to come (Want you to come)
Send me your ETA
And when you lay me down
Pin my legs to the clouds
And I hope you’re ready for the rain.”
Oh, snap! Besides the lyrics and tune, instrumentally, there is a welcome addition of synth horns post-chorus (“SOS, please / Let it fall, let it go”). Usher enters the mix during the second verse. His performance begins with rap and spoken word. It adds to the character of the song. Soon enough, he finds his pitch, singing the rhythmic, sexed-up vocals. “And when I hit it right in the right place / Look me right in the eyes, do what I say,” he sings, adding, “Bend it over, throw it back, you and I, tongue-tied / I’ma kiss it good, good, good night.” Victoria Monét and Usher hit all the right notes on “SOS (Sex on Sight)”.

5. JT, “DOD”
City Cinderella // Quality Control Music / Motown // 2024
“I ain’t never ran from the dick (Never) / Smack it from the back, I’m a dance on the dick (Ow).” Ooh-wee! Holy smokes, JT! JT, known as one half of the female rap duo, City Girls, doesn’t hold back on “DOD”, the fifth track from her debut mixtape, City Cinderella. “DOD” is an acronym for dance on [the] dick 🍆. Charming. In the chorus, the section to beat on this dick-driven joint, “Slide down the pole and land on the dick / Spit, no hands on the dick (ugh) / Let me get on top, I’ma dance on the dick (ow).” It’s ‘clear as mud’ what she’s getting at, right? Damn right! Who helps JT dance on the D? Boysarerolling, CuBeatz, and Xander Linnet produce, giving JT a banging and sickening backdrop. Part of the allure of the backdrop is the world music cues, specifically the sitar and percussion sounds from India. Once the beat drops JT kicks ass and takes names!
The chorus is the section to beat. That’s where the dick dancing takes place! But, JT also ‘gets it in’ throughout two verses. The lyrics are eloquent… said no one, ever. “I’m a badass bitch with my rich ass (JT) / I need a big dick nigga with a big bag,” she spits in the first verse, adding, “Come fuck me standing up, I’m a dance on the dick / Chinese splits, I’ma land on the dick.” NSFW, NSFW, NSFW! For good measure, she informs us, “Pussy so wet, he go and swim this shit.” There’s even more unapologetic naughtiness in the second verse: “Hiss, moving like a snake in this bitch / I clap, my ass’ll start a earthquake in this bitch.” Gah-day-um! “DOD” is not deep or safe for work, but, it’s a surefire, entertaining, sexed-up rap banger. The midnight heat is scorching!

6. Yeat, “STFU”
LYFESTYLE // Field Trip Recordings / UMG Recordings, Inc. // 2024
“I only need one person, bitch, myself.” Word, Yeat. “STFU” is the second track from the rapper’s 2024 album, LYFESTYLE. Yeat keeps things hella brief – under two minutes! A 2 Low Key sample, “Test My Nutz”, appears at the beginning of “STFU” setting the tone. Following the 2 Low Key intro, Yeat ‘dives in’ with melodic, syrupy, higher-pitched vocals in the chorus. There are plenty of vocal effects in play.
“We was outside with the rag, like the Taliban
‘Shut your mouth, shut the fuck up,’ I keep tellin’ ‘em
‘Shut the fuck up,’ I keep tellin’ ‘em
‘Shut the fuck up,’ I keep tellin’ ‘em.”
After the chorus, Yeat continues to spit in the same manner, keep the rhymes repetitive and simplistic. “It’s a geek party, so we geekin’ all night,” he raps, adding lyrics like “Seen ‘em turn on they own gang, own guys,” and “ Grindin’ your fuckin’ gears up like rail / Blind to your fuckin’ broke shit like braille.” Eventually, during the sole verse, Yeat’s vocals lower in pitch, sounding more natural. Still, that high-pitched chorus returns, in all its syrupy-ness.

7. Chlöe, “FYS”
Trouble in Paradise // Parkwood Entertainment LLC / Columbia // 2024
“FYS” is a single and the 12th track from Trouble in Paradise, the sophomore album by Chlöe (Chlöe Bailey). Adorned with a parental advisory explicit lyrics sticker, it should come as no surprise what the ‘F’ stands for in the song title… Fuck. As for the rest of the title, it’s your status, so, “Fuck Your Status” is what Chlöe is serving up. She penned this explicit number alongside producer, Bongo. Additionally, she and Bongo produce with Go Grizzly and Cashmere Brown. “FYS” is a sex song. In the first verse, she sings, “Feels so good like that (Like that) / When you hit it right like that.” Woo! She adds, “I know that you in love with the cat.” Meow… In the second verse, she remains naughty, asserting, “Make it so wet like a wave / I’ma make you feel that type of way / Countdown to the high / Climax of your life / Rain down, while you let me ride, let me ride…” Damn! Ultimately, she’s so into this dude, and having sex with this dude, in the chorus, she’s like, “Fuck your status, it don’t matter / Money, cars, and the diamonds / Don’t faze me, I been had it.” All told, Bailey sings well on this sexy, contemporary R&B joint. The backdrop matches the sexual nature of the lyrics – slower tempo, indulgent, lush synths, and smooth vibes. “FYS” won’t change your life, but if you need a sex song to put you in the mood, you should indulge.

8. 42 Dugg, “N.P.O.” (Ft. Sexyy Red)
4eva Us Neva Them // CMG / Interscope // 2024
“These niggas mad I got their bitches / Ayy, I’m trippin’, bae (Yeah), I’m trickin’, bae, I’m wit’ it bae.” WOO! Rappers 42 Dugg and Sexyy Red make a formidable duo. At least that’s one way to describe their collaboration on “N.P.O.”. What does “N.P.O.” stand for? It’s an acronym for no panties on 🤭 😏. “N.P.O.” is the seventh track on 42 Dugg’s 2024 album, 4eva Us Neva Them. The three-minute track was produced by G1, T9C, and Nami. As the excerpted lyric from the first verse suggests, 42 Dugg is the shit. He’s confident, can attain all the girls he wants, and spoils her: “We been in the Louis store, my bitch won’t put no Fendi on.” Beyond a drippy 42, where does Sexyy Red enter the mix? It begins in the chorus, where, ‘on brand,’ she asserts, “I ain’t got no panties on, ain’t got no panties on.” Sexyy Red keeps things sexual, as always: “I ain’t got no panties on, let the coochie show / Throw that ass back, twerk it in his face slow / G-g-grab them leggings on with a fat camel toe.” Typical Sexyy. If nothing else is learned from the naughty, unapologetic “N.P.O.” we know that “She ain’t got no panties on.”

9. Doechii, “MPH”
“MPH” // Top Dawg Entertainment / Capitol // 2024
“Yeah, I could give you the conscious shit, but I’m too busy giving you cunt.” Woo! Doechii is that girl! A naughty, unapologetic girl at that! The rapper ALWAYS exudes confidence. “MPH”, a two-minute-long single is no exception. The excerpted lyrics appear near the end of the cut – capping off her badness by serving C U Next Tuesday! She’s backed by a danceable beat and backdrop produced by Demeanor (Justin Harrington).“MPH” is a flex and Doechii takes her victory lap. “Went from bitches trying to call me out my name, to calling my name in the stands,” she asserts. She sees her fanbase, too: “See you moving to the coven shit singing my lyrics and moving your hands / Whatever it is you’re doing, I don’t really think I would call it a dance.” She gives us sickening, quick-paced rhymes. She also throws a jab or two: “OnlyFans ain’t cutting it, honey / Breaks my heart you gotta fuck for money /… Rich pussy in my panties, bitch, your panties all up in a bunch.” She brings fierceness to “MPH”.

10. Camila Cabello, “B.O.A.T.”
C,XOXO // Camila Cabello // 2024
“And I fucked up, baby, big time / And just when I think I / Could fall in love without you, I forget why I try / You were the best of all time.” Oh, snap! “B.O.A.T.,” aka, best of all time, is the 12th track from Camila Cabello’s fourth studio album, C,XOXO. In the chorus, she states what she wishes that he’s said to her – that she was the best of all time. “B.O.A.T.” features 12 songwriters! Notably, it samples the 2009 Pitbull record, “Hotel Room Service”. During the song, the lyrics “We at the hotel, motel, Holiday Inn” recur, including during her reflective chorus. Daniel Aged, Jasper Harris, and El Guincho produced it.
Beyond the chorus, Cabello expresses the love pain experienced at his hands. “Lying in bed, replaying the shit you said / Ever regret all the messing with my head?” she sings in the first verse. She adds, “You’d probably have me for a lifetime if you didn’t need some help.” Interesting 🤔! In the second verse, Cabello continues to get personal: “You’d never ask me who I’m givin’ all of my body to now / You’d never ask me ‘bout these nights, baby, I pray that you find out.” Ooh-wee! Cabello sings this ballad well, bringing ample authenticity against a minimal, percussion-less backdrop.

11. System Of A Down, “B.Y.O.B.”
Mezmerize // Sony Music Entertainment // 2005
“Why do they always send the poor?” Food for thought. Also, food for thought: “You depend on our protection, yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth.” Mic drop! In their first of two albums released in 2005, Mezmerize, System Of A Down dropped a hell of a potent protest song, “B.Y.O.B.”. No, Tankian isn’t encouraging you to bring your own booze. In this case, “B.Y.O.B.” is an acronym for bring your own bombs. War was firmly planted on the minds of System Of A Down and they didn’t hold back! Notably, their ambition, top-notch musicianship, and brutal honesty earned them a well-deserved Grammy (Best Hard Rock Performance). Also, for a hard rock/metal song, “B.Y.O.B.” performed well on the pop charts, earning SOAD their highest-charting song peaking at no. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100.
What makes “B.Y.O.B.” one of System Of A Down’s best songs? The music is electrifying and often raucous. The collective provides contrast between the verses (wilder) and the chorus (more accessible and melodic), keeping things fresh and engaging. In the first verse, Serj sings of “Barbarisms by Barbaras with pointed heels” as well as “Marching forward, hypocritic and hypnotic computers.” In the second, there are “Kneeling roses disappearing in Moses’ dry mouth” and “Hangars sitting dripped in oil, crying, ‘Freedom!’” Damn! The chorus, however, is the crème de la crème – the crowning achievement:
“Everybody’s going to the party, have a real good time
Dancin’ in the desert, blowin’ up the sunshine.”
Ah, a sarcastic, cynical view of war – noted! The guitar riffs are quick and jagged, the bass provides a mean foundation, while the drums pummel something fierce. Later, the bridge and refrain separate themselves from the verse and chorus, led by raw, screamed vocals. This is intentional for Daron Malakian (guitarist and the band’s second vocalist) to make his point. Malakian drops bombs – f-bombs! “Blast off, it’s party time / And where the fuck are you?” Protest songs often earn a controversial label, particularly when the protest is either extremely right-wing or left-wing. Protesting wars of any kind always raises eyebrows, particularly the Iraq War in the 2000s, during the George W. Bush presidency, and post 9/11. Interestingly, System Of A Down performed the song, with its f-bombs on Saturday Night Live in 2005. The censors were successful in bleeping out “where the fuck are you,” but, Malakian’s rogue “fuck yeah!” went uncensored (live, mind you) and got the band banned. Although “B.Y.O.B.” is controversial, it is one of the best rock songs of the 2000s, PERIOD!
