INJI, BELLYDANCING | Bangerz N Bopz 🔥

In the 42^nd edition of Bangerz N Bopz 🔥 (2024), we break down “BELLYDANCING” performed by INJI.

“Standing outside off my Versace / Fuck it, let’s go Mariachi.” Fuck yeah, INJI! In a variation at the end of the second verse of “BELLYDANCING”, the Turkish singer/songwriter drops another bomb: “I wish I had my Helly Hansen / Fuck it, let’s go belly dancing.” The two f-bombs are just part of INJI’s charm.  The intro is performed in Turkish, a cool, fitting touch. Of “BELLYDANCING,” via Ones to Watch, she asserts:

“This silly little song means A LOT to me…I’m so happy to have found a way to bring my culture from Türkiye into dance music… Secondly, it feels so fun to celebrate this Middle Eastern form of dance, alongside a Mexican form of music…”

The sound of “BELLYDANCING” falls under the pop umbrella, but incorporates dance, Mexican, and Middle Eastern music cues. INJI raps the two verses.  She sings the chorus which is tuneful to the nth degree:

“So, let’s get in a car

Take a shot in the dark

Let it take you wherever

It’s now or it’s never

Lose myself in your eyes

Take the lows with the highs

If we’re rolling together

I’m down for whatever.”

Interestingly, she only mentions belly dancing once, never in the chorus.  Go figure! She penned “BELLYDANCING” alongside Neil Ormandy and producer, Diamond Pistols.  It is an engaging, entertaining, and satisfying two-minute listen.
