Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop collaborates with Swedish singer/songwriter Yaeger for a fresh, fun single, “Shit We Do For Love.”
“This shit that we do for love, we do for love…” There is no doubt you will remember the sugar honey iced tea that Swedish duo 🎙 Icona Pop serves up on 🎵 “Shit We Do For Love”. The titular lyric not only features the s-bomb, but it is repeated a – wait for it – shit-ton of times (sorry, couldn’t resist)! Icona Pop – 🎙 Aino Jawo and 🎙 Caroline Hjelt – have been doing the damn thing since 2009. They are joined on this electro-pop joint by fellow Swedish artist, 🎙 Yaeger on this energetic record described as being fresh. There is no doubt that this shee-it (🤭) right here is fun!
From a songwriting perspective, “Shit We Do For Love” is not particularly deep. Icona Pop and Yeager penned the record alongside 🎼 ✍ YARO (SE) who also produces, as well as Philip Strand, Lowell, and Enzo Ingrosso. Obviously, the chorus is repetitive, which is idiomatic of a dance track. The writing doesn’t need to be deep to be fair, especially since it is fun. The verse expounds on the shit 💩 which the ladies speak of (“Lettin’ down my guard / Ready for a heartache / If you need to charge / My battery’s all yours, babe”). Furthermore, the trio adds, “You know to break me” – the nameless imminent heartbreaker, that is. Beyond the theme and lyrics, it is the instrumental – the sound of the record – that steals the show. The tempo is quick. The rhythm and groove go hard from the onset. Honestly, there is no way you listen to “Shit We Do For Love” and don’t move some part of your body. Although it is not game changing or life changing, 🎵 “Shit We Do For Love” provides a lift to the playlist – some good shee-it indeed!
