New York rapper Ice Spice and Nigerian rapper/singer Rema team up for a short but sweet, vibe-laden single, “Pretty Girl.”
“Lookin’ at you my eyes wide, damn.” Damn indeed, 🎙 Ice Spice (Isis Gaston). The rapper is back with a new single, 🎵 “Pretty Girl”, which finds her collaborating with Nigerian rapper/singer 🎙 Rema (Divine Ikubor). Like many Ice Spice songs, “Pretty Girl” keeps the runtime short. Sound wise, the record incorporates tropical / island vibes. This is established by the production courtesy of 🎛 RIOTUSA, Blake Slatkin, and Jasper Harris, as well as the early performance by Rema.
So, what is Rema’s role on “Pretty Girl”? He performs the chorus, which plays out something like this:
“Yeah, pretty gyal, me no do no kiss and tell
As long as you treat me well, I will treat you more than gem
Me no send my chain, you are my real flex
Oya, yeah, gimme promise, you ain’t gonna bail on me.”
The chorus is enjoyable. The controversial musician sounds S-W-E-E-T. Furthermore, Ice Spice delivers a smooth, rhythmic flow. Notably, she’s much tamer than usual. Save for a couple of damns, Ice keeps it clean. “Yeah, you the one, there’s no number two / If I had three wishes, I’d waste ‘em on you,” she raps, later adding, “Thinkin’ ‘bout my future, got you all in it / Shootin’ for the stars, the sky has no limit.” Ooh wee! All told, “Pretty Girl” is enjoyable and fun – a bit of a change of pace for the rapper. There’s not much song here, but it works effectively.
