Hot 100 Jewels: The Weeknd Takes ‘Starboy’ to No. 1

The Weeknd, assisted by Daft Punk, finally ascends to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Starboy.” Rae Sremmurd and “Black Beatles” falls to no. 2.

“It’s been a long time coming.” The Weeknd even expressed the sentiment himself, if out of context: “I Feel it Coming.” After being stuck behind Rae Sremmurd (“Black Beatles”), “Starboy” (ft. Daft Punk) finally ascended to the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. “Black Beatles” didn’t slip far – no. 2.  Likewise, another juggernaut, “Closer”, continues to pack a punch.  In addition to the top three dominating records on the Hot 100, there’s numerous stories and takeaways on the Hot 100 dated January 7, 2017. 

1. After spending two months in the runner-up slot, The Weeknd takes “Starboy” (ft. Daft Punk) to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

2. After a big-time run at no. 1, Rae Sremmurd slips to no. 2 with “Black Beatles” (ft. Gucci Mane).

3. Perhaps The Chainsmokers’ dominance has waned a bit, but mega-hit “Closer” (ft. Halsey) still sits at no. 3 to the Hot 100.

4. One of the sillier songs of 2016, “Juju on that Beat (TZ Anthem),” ascends three spots from no. 8 to no. 5.

5. Machine Gun Kelly x Camila Cabello reenter the top 10 with “Bad Things,” which jumps from no. 14 to no. 9.

6. Amine is close to securing his first top-10 single with “Caroline,” which rises five spots from no. 16 to no. 11.

7. Migos and featured guest Lil Uzi Vert have the biggest hit of their respective careers on their hands with “Bad and Boujee,” which flies up the charts from no. 26 to no. 13.

8. Zayn and Taylor Swift sees collaborative soundtrack single “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Dark)” dip from no. 6 to no. 18.

9. Young M.A. isn’t finished when it comes to the success of “OOOUUU.” After slipping to no. 47, this week, she rebounds at no. 19.

10. Rihanna is up to no. 20 with latest single, “Love on the Brain.”

11. Big Sean has a hit on his hand with “Bounce Back,” which ascends from no. 31 to no. 21 this week.

12. Jon Bellion is earning some much-needed support as “All Time Low” ascends 12 spots from no. 36 to no. 24.

13. Shawn Mendes is on the rise with “Mercy,” which ascends from no. 44 to no. 28.

14. Niall Horan experiences minor success with “This Town,” which rises 13 spots from no. 50 to no. 37. It also helps that the single is now $.69.

15. Gucci Mane earns a lead spot on the Hot 100 with “Both” (ft. Drake), which starts at no. 41.

16. Adele is on the rise with “Water Under the Bridge” (no. 61 to no. 51).

17. Chris Brown, assisted by Usher and Gucci Mane, debuts at no. 58 with single, “Party.”

18. Lady Gaga has experienced only modest success with “Million Reasons,” which slips from no. 62 to no. 70 this week. The single has only peaked at no. 52 as of yet.
