After unseating Sia last week, The Chainsmokers retain the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.  There is competition as Major Lazer sit right behind the duo’s hit single, “Closer,” with their own hit, “Cold Water.”  Beyond the top, interestingly, Frank Ocean impact on the Billboard 200 also trickles over onto the Billboard Hot 100, dated September 10, 2016.  There are plenty of Hot 100 jewels to be analyzed!

 

  1. The Chainsmokers spend a second week at no. 1 with “Closer” featuring Halsey.

 

  1. Major Lazer have their eyes on the no. 1 spot as “Cold Water” (featuring Justin Bieber & ) ascends one-spot back to its peak position, no. 2.

 

  1. twenty one pilots have to consecutive top-five hits this week with “Heathens” from Suicide Squad (no. 4) and “Ride” from Blurryface (no. 5).

 

  1. Shawn Mendes cracks the top 10 with hit single, “Treat You Better” which rises from no. 12 to no. 10.

 

  1. Justin Timberlake slips out of the top 10. “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” slides from no. 9 to no. 12.

 

 

  1. Charlie Puth sees his duet with Selena Gomez, “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” ascend five spots from no. 18 to no. 13.

 

  1. D.R.A.M.’s hit “Broccoli” (featuring Lil Yachty) ascends into the top 20 (no. 21 to no. 19).

 

  1. Likewise, Kiiara sees single “Gold” ascend into the top 20 (no. 23 to no. 20).

 

  1. gnash sees his breakthrough single “I Hate U I Love U” (featuring Olivia O’Brien) reach a new peak position, no. 25.

 

  1. Coldplay has another hit on their hands. “Hymn For The Weekend” improves seven spots from no. 35 to no. 28.

 

  1. Meghan Trainor loses some support with self-centered single “Me Too.” It dips from no. 25 to no. 32. “Me Too” missed the top 10.

 

 

  1. Usher sees growing single “No Limit” (featuring Young Thug) drop three spots from no. 33 to no. 36. Even so, “No Limit” experienced gains in performance.

 

  1. Lukas Graham potentially have another hit on their hands. “Mama Said” rises from no. 55 to no. 47. No. 47 marks a new peak position after charting for six weeks.

 

  1. Hailey Stanfield & Grey are quickly rising up the chart with “Starving,” a single also featuring Zedd. “Starving” jumps nine spots from no. 62 to no. 53.

 

  1. Britney Spears once more loses support for her G-Eazy assisted single “Make Me…” “Make Me…” slides seven spots from no. 51 to no. 58.

 

 

  1. YG is experiencing moderate Hot 100 success with single “Why You Always Hatin?” featuring Drake & Kamaiyah. “Hatin” ascends from no. 71 to no. 62 in its 10th charting week.

 

 

  1. Cole Swindell sees single “Middle of A Memory” make big gains this week (no. 84 to no. 65).

 

  1. Marc E. Bassy cracks the top 70 with G-Eazy assisted single, “You & Me” (no. 72 to no. 69).

 

  1. French Montana’s “No Shopping” (Featuring Drake) loses support this week, slipping from no. 67 to no. 72. The single peaked at no. 36.

 

  1. Five Frank Ocean songs debut on the Billboard Hot 100: “Nikes” (no. 79), “Ivy” (no. 80), “Pink + White” (no. 84), “Solo” (no. 96), and “Nights” (no. 98).
