On the 2nd edition of 3 or 4 BOPS (2022), we select awesome songs that are associated with Horses in some form or fashion.
A
h, sometimes itβs better to keep things lite on the fat and calories1. Ginuwine, βPonyβ
Ginuwineβ¦the Bachelor β’
Sony Music Entertainment β’
1996
βIf weβre gonna get nasty baby / First weβll show and tell / Till I reach your ponytail.β Woo! Early on in his career,
Ginuwine (Elgin Lumpkin)
got us all hot and bothered singing about his
βPonyβ. Yes, his pony is exactly what you suspect it is β his penis! The most memorable part of this 1996 gem from
Ginuwineβ¦the Bachelor is β drum roll please β the chorus! Of course, it is because this is where this stud encourages her to giddy up! Yeehaw!
βIf youβre horny, letβs do it, ride it, my pony
My saddleβs waitinβ, come and jump on it.β
With those looks and that lustful invitation, who could resist that ride? Besides the chorus, Ginuwine sets up his horniness on the verses. In the first, heβs searching for a rider and asserts, βGirl, when I break you off / I promise that you wonβt wanna get off.β The second is steamier: βSend chills up and down your spine / Juices flowing down your thigh.β In addition to all this big dick energy Lumpkin serves up, notably, Timbaland famously produced this top ten Billboard Hot 100 hit. βPonyβ is a prime example of the producer at his finest. Also, worth mentioning, βPonyβ got an incredibly sexy music Video
β fitting. I mean, a dancing Ginuwine with his shirt openβ¦nuff said! I did mention Lumpkin was a handsome man, right?

2. SOPHIE, βPonyboyβ
OIL OF EVERY PEARLβS UN-INSIDES β’
MSMSMSM INC / Future Classic β’
2018
βLock up the door / Put the pony on all fours / Crackdown the whip / Make the pony bite the bit.β Sadly, Scottish musician
SOPHIE (Sophie Xeon) died from a tragic accident on January 30, 2021. That day, a brilliant musician was lost. SOPHIE exemplified the forward-thinking, progressive musician, something you can hear clearly on
βPonyboy.β βPonyboyβ appears on her 2018 album,
OIL OF EVERY PEARLβS UN-INSIDES. The album earned her a
Grammy nomination which was historic considering sheβs the rare trans musician to be nominated.
Focusing on βPonyboy,β what makes it so awesome? First and foremost, itβs the decadent ear candy it serves up. The production is epic, contrasting so much other music currently out. The minute you hear βPonyboy,β it βhits different.β Besides the backdrop, handled exclusively by the gifted musician, the vocals are ear-catching too. SOPHIE performs alongside Cecil Believe, who co-writes (βHe is just a pony / She is just a pony / They is just a ponyβ). All genders covered! Are the lyrics really about the animal? Of course not, but the -boy added to the title should tell you that. As expected, βPonyboyβ isnβt the cleanest, most family-friendly record youβll ever hear:
βSpit on my face
Put the pony on in his place
I am your toy
Just a little ponyboy.β
3. The Rolling Stones, βWild Horsesβ
Sticky Fingers β’
Promotone B.V. / Universal International Music B.V. β’
1971
βChildhood living is easy to do / The things you wanted, I bought them for you.β Ah β what a sensational opening lyric if I do say so myself! OKβ¦ more context is necessary!
The Rolling Stones have no shortage of hits. Hits and hits and then, more hits! Among my favorite hits by this legendary blues-rock band is
βWild Horses.β βWild Horsesβ appears as the third track on one of the collectiveβs most famous albums,
Sticky Fingers. Worth noting, Sticky Fingers features the incredibly controversial
βBrown Sugarβ as well as a wonderful little tune entitled,
βBitchβ β lol. Here, we just focus on this marvelous ballad.
βWild Horsesβ is, in my opinion, one of the bandβs finest ballads. Mick Jagger sings beautifully without losing any rock credibility. I love his tone on the verse β expressive, earthy, and authentic. The record, however, isnβt cheery despite its brilliance. βI watched you suffer a dull, aching pain,β Jagger sings in the second verse, adding, βNo sweeping exits or offstage lines / Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind.β Besides being heavy as opposed to light, it should be noted that βWild Horsesβ has little to do with equines. The song appears to reference Jaggerβs former flame,
Marianne Faithfull, though Jagger denies the song is about her. Jagger packs the most punch on the centerpiece, the chorus, which is simple yet ranks among my favorite choruses of all-time:
βWild horses couldnβt drag me away
Wild, wild horses couldnβt drag me away.β

4. Ty Dolla $ign, βHorses in the Stableβ
Free TC β’
Atlanticβ’
2016
Objectifying women is nothing new to R&B/hip-hop.
Ty Dolla $ign does just that on βHorses in the Stableβ, which has nothing to do with animals. Guess who these βhorsesβ are that Ty references? Women! Dolla $ign acts like the typical, confident, and cocky artist on this
Free TC highlight, naming various women whom he can bed. βI told her give me something good I might come back / I snap my finger they be on me just like that,β he sings, before diving into the cringe-worthy chorus, βHorses in the stable, horses in the stable / That I can ride, ooh anytime.β Woo!
Naturally, Ty Dolla $ign canβt resist non-descriptive references. In the second verse when he references βNicki,β he describes her, um, goods. To Tyβs credit on this song chocked-full of empty hookups, at least he admits heβs a dog: βThey know the way that Iβm living ainβt right / You just another girl and this is just another night.β Of course, he later contradicts himself when he sings, βShe said she lookinβ for a real one / I told her that she found a real one,β before the mention of relationships.
