Once more, multi-award-winning R&B singer/songwriter H.E.R. shines on “We Made It,” the opener from her debut album, Back of My Mind.
It’s been a long time coming, but 🏆 multi-award-winning R&B singer/songwriter 🎙 H.E.R. is finally releasing her debut album, 💿 Back of My Mind. Honestly, it is amazing what she’s accomplished before dropping the official first LP. She’s won multiple Grammys, including Song of the Year for “I Can’t Breathe”, and an Oscar for “Fight for You” from Judas and The Black Messiah. She continues her hot streak with 🎵 “We Made It”, the final single released in advance of Back of My Mind.
There’s plenty to dig about “We Made It.” Early on, it is the sound of the record that shines. The instrumental takes nearly a minute to simmer, which is something we don’t hear as often in R&B. I heart the production by 🎛 Flippa and 🎛 DJ Camper. Once H.E.R. begins singing, she’s on-point. She never over sings, delivering expressive and nuanced vocals without doing too much. The richness of her tone is stunning, showing why she’s had the success she’s had so far. Beyond the lush, picturesque backdrop and sweet vocals, the listener also gets to hear strong songwriting. H.E.R. is a mix of contemporary, love-motivated, reflective, and thankful. There are several key moments, including a personal favorite, “They said I won’t come up with the family and cop a couple of Grammys / All the things they said I can’t be, revenge taste just like candy.” Love it!
