The ever-prolific, southern rapper Gucci Mane, assisted by two of three Migos and Lil Yachty, drops a brief banger with “Solitaire.”
Gucci Mane continues to be one of the most prolific rapper’s in the game. Perhaps he’s making up lost time following a lengthy incarceration. He’s back once more with another new single, “Solitaire,” assisted by Migos and Lil Yachty.
“Solitaire” ends up being a brief record, clocking in under two-and-a-half minutes. It features cloudy, hazy sounding production on the intro. Ultimately, the mood and vibe set is sensation. On said intro, Gucci Mane says, “Burr, I’m out pu**y / It’s your worst nightmare / Glacier, ha.”
The production becomes clearer and more stable, once Gucci Mane drops the incredibly catchy, infectious hook.
“I was just sittin’ in a cell playin’ solitaire / Now they see me everywhere, bracelet full of solitaires / Solitaire, solitaire, neck, ear, solitaire / Bad b*tch from Fort Lauderdale, say she love them solitaires.”
“Solitaire” is clever because it’s clear that Gucci Mane is playing on words, particularly when he spits, “I was just sittin’ in a cell playin’ solitaire.” Clearly, he’s referencing solitary confinement. Following the hook, we get verses from the Migos. Takeoff appears on the first verse, rapping about ice: “Ice there, ice here, I just iced the atmosphere.” Quavo segues on the second verse, continuing the glacial nature of the rhymes: “Glacier boy, it’s a global warmin’.” Following the Gucci Mane chorus, Lil Yachty takes the third verse. “B*tch, I don’t play no solitaire, I’m a f*ckin’ millionaire / Trap stars everywhere, bad hoes everywhere…” Finally, focusing on jewelry and money, Gucci delivers the fourth and final verse.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, “Solitaire” is a banger. That said, the brief number brings nothing new to the table. Gucci Mane and company are focused on clichés. The hook is the best feature.
