Green Day, Revolution Radio [📷: Reprise]After reigniting the spark with promo single “Bang Bang,” Green Day drops another amped-up single “Revolution Radio,” ahead of their LP of the same name.

Green Day is back at it again.  After releasing single “Bang Bang” ahead of forthcoming album Revolution Radio, the punk-revivalist band returns with the set’s title track, “Revolution Radio.” “Revolution Radio” is worth the hype without question.

“Revolution Radio” opens with lightning quick tempo.  This is punk and the punk-revivalist spirit at its best.  Adding to the punk-rock sentiment is a spirit of antiestablishment and anti-social media.  Billie Joe Armstrong tackles police brutality and racial inequality in America on the first verse: “Scream, with your hands up in the sky / Like you want to testify / For the life that’s been deleted.” Among the most important words of the verse is testify, which seems to have multiple meanings in this contest.  The second verse, hence, tackles Armstrong’s disdain for social media: “The dawn of the new airwaves for the anti-social media.” Armstrong and company stitch things together on the memorable chorus:

 “We are revolution radio

Operation ‘no control’

And the headline ‘my love’s bulletproof’

Give me cherry bombs and gasoline

Debutantes in surgery

And the headline ‘legalize the truth’.”

Final Thoughts

Green Day once more nails the meaningful single.  “Revolution Radio” has its middle fingers up in the air as it denounces police brutality and inequality and social media.  Social and political issues have been kind to Green Day over the years and “Revolution Radio” is no different.  Is Green Day on autopilot? That’s for sure.
