girl in red, if i could make it go quiet [📷: world in red / AWAL]Alternative artist girl in red brings the heat on her bluntly titled, “You Stupid Bitch” from her debut LP, if I could make it go quiet.

Three words: 🎵 “You Stupid Bitch”.  Da-yum! Yep, that’s actually the name of the single at hand from rising alternative singer/songwriter, 🎙 girl in red (Marie Ulven Ringheim).  The ‘charmingly’ titled song appears as the sixth track on her debut album, 💿 if I could make it go quiet (April 30, 2021).  As brash and unapologetic as the title is, the song itself isn’t quite as ‘rough around the edges’ you might say.

So, why is Ringheim calling some a “stupid bitch?” Well, matters of the heart are involved.  Within the context of the song, she’s referencing a girlfriend, who seems to have the opposite perspective regarding relationship(s).  As girl in red tells it, she’s simply trying to be supportive and is the perfect girl for her.  “You let the wrong people love you,” she advises on the first verse, adding, “But you don’t see that do you?” Later, on the second verse, she adds, “But you never listen / Take my advice as criticism / Then make the worse decisions.” On the chorus, she calls her “stupid bitch,” but not maliciously believe it or not: “You stupid bitch, can’t you see / The perfect one for you is me.”  Makes sense to me! Furthermore, throw an energetic, driving alt-rock backdrop (Ringheim and 🎛 Matias Tellez) and assertive vocals by Ringheim and you have a surefire winner.

Final Thoughts 💭

While it is frowned upon to refer to folks as a “stupid bitch” girl in red makes it sound infectious.  “You Stupid Bitch” is a fine promo single from an artist who brings plenty to the table.  The record is fun, relatable and applicable in numerous ways, well-performed, well-produced, and ultimately, well-rounded.
