Welcome to Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.ย  Featured songs arenโ€™t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better โ€“ be LIFTED to new heights!ย  So, for the 17th edition of Music Lifts ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‹ (2024), we highlight โ€œIโ€™m Backโ€ as performed by girl in red.

girl in red, Iโ€™M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! [๐Ÿ“ท: Columbia]โ€œIโ€™m back, I feel like myself / I was gone for a minute โ€˜cause I went to get help.โ€ Girl in red (Marie Ulven) is back, baby! That is worth rejoicing about. No, not only because of her musicianship but also because sheโ€™s returned from a dark place.ย  She continues singing on โ€œIโ€™m Backโ€, the opening track from her 2024 album, Iโ€™M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!, โ€œItโ€™s not like I wanna die / At least not now, I love being alive.โ€ Ulven is in a happier spot than she was, which is awesome.ย  She penned and produced โ€œIโ€™m Backโ€ alongside Matias Tรฉllez.ย  The sound, in all its positive, major-key glory, is nothing short of uplifting.

balancing a barbell on fingerIn the verses, girl in red provides insight into her dark place.ย  โ€œI was feeling so inadequate / Never been so out of it,โ€ she sings in the first verse.ย  In the second, admittedly, โ€œI know I have a tendency, melancholic tragedy / Always seems to follow me โ€˜round.โ€ Bummer, bummer! Furthermore, โ€œSometimes I get bit by the dark / It spread into my heart, takes over me.โ€ Despite it all, she adds, โ€œI believe thereโ€™s hope for me / Iโ€™m back /โ€ฆ Yeah, Iโ€™m back.โ€ In the third and final verse, she concludes wisely, โ€œI wouldnโ€™t go without it, the ups and downs and what-ifs / Itโ€™s all a part of being alive.โ€ True, true, true! Life is a mixed bag, but even the worst parts are โ€œa part of being alive.โ€ Girl in red speaks sheer truth on โ€œIโ€™m Backโ€ and shows sheโ€™s ready to embrace life head-on.
