The indie flame is reignited with Girl Afraid’s new release, “Dutch Courage.”

Girl Afraid are not afraid to show what Hull has to offer. As a result, they have provided us with a fine indie track “Dutch Courage.” Refreshing from the start, “Dutch Courage” nearly blew my speakers but for good reasons. It is loud, punchy and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Also, having been an avid indie fan since the indie heyday of 2005, it reignited my flame for this genre.
“Dutch Courage” is not a prototype of indie but it delves into its own unique realm. It kicks off with a raunchy drum and guitar section before being greeted with a tight and catchy vocal from lead singer Sam Mellors.
I have followed the Hull music scene for quite some time, they seem to have a knack for dropping indie gems. The Paddingtons were hot on my playlists some time ago and now I may have found a new favourite here with Girl Afraid.
Not a track which has been commercially polished but yet I would not have wanted that. Because this track cuts the grade well enough with its early indie and raw vibe. I sense a great future for this four piece. I rate this track a solid 4 out of 5. – George James
