nnuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom.  Like Controversial Tunes 😈🎶, the records featured here raise eyebrows.  The difference between the songs of CONTROVERSY and DARK? These songs specifically focus on the universal topic of S-E-X. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome.  On the 6th edition of After Dark, we explore the naughty, risqué, scandalous & utterly sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “So Anxious” by 🎙 Ginuwine

Theme & Lyrics

“I’m so anxious / So meet me at 11:30, I love the way you’re talkin’ dirty.” Oh yes! Ginuwine – what a stud! Women adored the sex symbol back in the day, while many men were envious (rightfully so).  I mean, those abs, hello! Ooh wee! Anyways, this isn’t about objectifying G, who’s sexy AF, but rather focusing on his sexy, AFTER DARK gem, “So Anxious.” The chorus, excerpted above, continues as follows: “Said, I’m so anxious / Girl could you quit this stallin’, you know I’m a sexaholic.”

A sexaholic huh? Bet that’s a stimulating experience 😈! In 1999, the R&B artist was on fire with this sensual highlight from 💿 100% Ginuwine.  Produced by 🎛 Timbaland, Ginuwine has a lush, rhythmic backdrop to share his horniness and anxiousness about the imminent sex.  Throughout, time is an issue for G, mostly because he wants to do it so badly again with this hottie.  “You said you’re working / Well hit me just as soon as your shift is over,” he sings on the second verse, continuing, “And I’ll be waiting, cause I can’t sleep for reminiscing / Reminiscing bout you and what we do, hit me back.”  G is arguably his lustiest on the bridge:

“Said as soon as you hit the door, I’mma pull you down on the floor
...Baby girl, I wanna bump and grind
This s something that’s been on my mind.”

Music Video 🎶📼

Naturally, a sexy song by a talented R&B singer deserves an equally sexy video.  “So Anxious” gives this sexiness and more tasteful than the music videos of the aughts.  Remember how I shamelessly objectified Ginuwine? Well, how can you not objectify him peeping those biceps, wife beater, and a hint of skin 🤤? Image is big in the music industry even if it undersells those that aren’t picture perfect, so, the team in charge knew what they were selling with this eye-catching video about an imminent sexual experience.  Furthermore, G’s love interest is smoking hot – no reason why he’s “So Anxious!”

Final Thoughts 💭

“So Anxious” is a contemporary R&B classic.  It’s ‘sexy,’ fitting the premise of AFTER DARK, yet respectably sexy.  Sure, we know what’s going down, and the sex appeal is through the roof, but Ginuwine proves suggestiveness without being explicit can go a long way.
