Rising queer pop artist Gia Woods shines on her short, sweet, and sassy bop, “HUNGRY.” Safe to say, she’s “not hungry, bitch.”
Believe it or not, the single at hand, “HUNGRY” marks the first appearance ever for Gia Woods on The Musical Hype. What can I say but, shame on us… well, me, for not featuring the queer pop artist before now. “HUNGRY” is the type of pop song that you listen to that is sure to leave you ‘hungry for more.’ Why? Well, it clocks in with a modest duration – under two minutes to be precise.
The good news for Gia Woods, and “HUNGRY” itself is that it’s an enjoyable, incredibly energetic two minutes of music. “HUNGRY” is co-written by Eric Leva, Gigi Grombacher, Kellen Pomeranz, and Natali Nassiri. Pomeranz, aka Pom Pom, handles the production. Pom Pom definitely gives Woods a compelling backdrop, with its cutting synths and rhythmic groove. That compelling backdrop definitely fuels both the playfulness and unapologetic attitude Woods exhibits throughout the course of the record. A prime example is the chorus:
“If you got bad taste, don’t go shoving it down my throat I’m not hungry, bitch, leave me alone I get a stomachache when I see your name on my phone I’m not hungry, bitch, leave me alone.”
Wow, what an awesome chorus. The verses, as well as the pre-chorus are pretty sweet too. “I’m in the driver seat, seat / Out here doing what I please, please,” she asserts on the pre-chorus. On the second verse, she drops a bullet singing, “Catch 22 / They tell you, ‘Be yourself,’ and then they change the rules / Yeah, all my exes did that and some white men too…”
Final Thoughts
Yeah, “HUNGRY” is short, and there’s definitely ‘a hunger for more.’ Even so, if Gia Woods does nothing else on this single, she definitely makes you interested to hear what she’ll serve up in the future. “HUNGRY,” the bop that it is, showcases her incredible potential.
