In our 288th Q&A, we get the inside scoop on Lavi’s musical background, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Yuval Lavi: Interview No. 288!For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
🎤 Firstly, my name is Yuval Lavi and I’m a classically and contemporary trained composer, producer, and sound designer for visual media. You can best describe my style as organic and lush. I use classical & folk instruments, along with synth and atmospheric sounds, to create a unique experience for my audience.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. What were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
🎤 When I first started creating music I had no destination or certain path I wanted to pursue. After moving to Los Angeles in 2018 and meeting many incredibly talented artists, I decided to start writing music for visual media and ultimately became a film composer. I have always been fascinated by how music evokes and enhances the audience’s emotions so, I started to create the very thing I was intrigued by.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
🎤 After working on a few films, some indie, and some commercials, I’ve realized that working on a smaller scale is fantastic. Personally, I feel like there’s more freedom and a place for me to be more creative with my work. There are opportunities to create something memorable and unique and to tell a story, or even a reality, with my music through my own choices.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
🎤 I’m Influenced a lot by electronic producers. I was always fascinated by synths and modulations of organic sounds. Also, I always had a passion for contemporary composers and their works.
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
🎤 One of my favorite scores is the ending track I wrote for “The Fisherman’s Wife”. It was a challenge for me to write a piece of music for that scene, but the results were fantastic. It enhances the emotion in a natural and organic way and supports the storyline perfectly. Both me and the director were very satisfied with the results.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
🎤 In my opinion, my biggest and most important talent is my ability to continuously work hard and be consistent. If you have a dream that’s worth fighting for, you need to wake up every morning and work towards it. That is the only way you can achieve your goals.
Closing out, what are you currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about?
🎤 I’m releasing an album next month! The album is influenced by artists Ludovico Einaudi, Evgeny Grinko, and Olafur Arnolds. If you are interested in my work, please follow me on social media and/or the website to hear more about the album and other upcoming projects!
