“I’m quite energetic!” Nothing wrong with being energetic, WOOF! In response to our first burning question, the Chicago-based indie music artist expounds, “People have called my music dreamy and turbulent.” Cool, cool, cool! We get the inside scoop on the musician’s – known for his live performances –  genesis, goals, musical influences, and current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know…WOOF: Interview No. 427!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes WOOF distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I’m WOOF, an indie music artist based out of Chicago, IL. I’m quite energetic! People have called my music dreamy and turbulent. I’m most known for my past live performances, FKA Austen Nobles.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did WOOF begin, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

WOOF was created out of pain. It’s a persona of myself that embraces the shadows and negative and animalistic aspects of being a human. I created the “band” as a healing outlet for myself. I’ve gone through a lot of hardships and felt the need to recreate myself at the end of last year. I wish for WOOF to become a household name. I’m for people who appreciate POC artists making alternative rock and post-punk music.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

At first, I just wanted to get some songs under my belt as a new artist. By the end of this year, I’ll have four singles out. Nowadays, my goals have changed scope. I’m looking forward to doing live performances and building the lore behind my brand. Looking forward to building a lot of momentum for next year.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Bloc Party, Gorillaz, N.E.R.D.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Sheesh, I think the craziest thing I’ve done so far is shutting down a venue. I had a performance where I started a giant mosh pit. I enjoy the thrill and being raw when performing. It’s all about your energy at the end of the day.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

My favorite song right now is “Crime”. It feels like it wrote itself. I know it’s going to age incredibly well and am excited for people to digest it. I hope it becomes the soundtrack to intimate moments in people’s lives.

WOOF [📷: WOOF]Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about WOOF? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Hmm, I’m a pretty good dancer. I miss the days when people would actually dance back in the 2000s. I love to tear up the dance floor. I look forward to integrating that part of myself into projects in the near future.

What is WOOF currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

A new single! Working on getting a project ready for next year as well.

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
