Getting to Know… Victor Sierra: Interview No. 456 [📷: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Victor Sierra]In the 456th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Paris steamgoth band Victor Sierra.

“We have our own universe with real costumes and fictitious props, untold truths, and half-baked lies.” Oh, snap, Victor Sierra! Commander Bob continues enigmatically,  “Ever heard about the ‘Hydrogen Queen’? We travel aboard this airship fueled by magic and chemistry.” Word! I will leave it at that! To find out exactly where Victor Sierra is going with this, it is best to continue reading our 456th Q&A! In Getting to Know… Victor Sierra: Interview No. 456, Commander Bob gives us the inside scoop on the VS’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in, shall we?!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Victor Sierra distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Hello, The Musical Hype readers, we have our own universe with real costumes and fictitious props, untold truths, and half-baked lies. Ever heard about the ‘Hydrogen Queen’? We travel aboard this airship fueled by magic and chemistry. All this makes Victor Sierra run on high energy on stage. Oh, and we have a ghost on stage with us. Piløt X-Ray. He’s in charge of the computer stand.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Victor Sierra form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

Anouk (The Legendary Princess) and I (Commander Bob) come from very different backgrounds. We met between two centuries and decided to mix them and form Victor Sierra. From the beginning [the] sky is the only limit. Even with dark clouds and hurricanes. We manage.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since you first started? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

The world has changed. So has the musical industry. I never used these words in the past. The industry was only mentioned sometimes to describe some of our songs: industrial rock or such. But we haven’t changed that much. We go on whatever happens, good or bad. Of course, we struggle with streaming platforms and social media, but the song remains the same. On that subject, we’re not different than other bands.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Victor Sierra is our own artistic melting pot. I mean we have had and still have many different influences. Not exclusively musical but from everything: cinema, painting, politics, cryptic encoded messages, computer science, literature, martial arts, poetry, and nightmares.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Our first show in the UK at The Asylum (Lincoln). Playing on the other side of the Channel, where it all began, was a dream for me. It was chaotic, incredibly stressful. My amp died as soon as I switched it on at the soundcheck. I had to play without it. A real drag. But as I started the show in a highly nervous state, I shouted, “Good evening, Great Britain!” and they all cheered us up. It was quite emotional. Not our best gig for sure but the most memorable one.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

We have that single: “The Hydrogen Queen’s Gambit”. It’s my favorite so far. It gathers a lot of typical Victor Sierra’s components. I loved to write and record it, and I enjoy playing it live a lot. It’s probably some kind of a milestone on our road.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Victor Sierra? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

If you listen carefully to our lyrics, you’ll certainly find out about things I don’t even know myself. Secrets play a big part in our universe, and like me, you won’t tell anyone, right? Just kidding!

Victor SierraWhat is Victor Sierra currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

We are to release a new single soon with Deadfall management’s help. The song’s name starts with an ‘H’ and ends with a ‘T’. If you love secrets as I do, you’ll certainly try to guess… And pressure can be productive!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

Thanks for the nice interview. We are Victor Sierra, and we dig The Musical Hype
