So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Tomi Perrakoski: Interview No. 458!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes … distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

It’s the beautiful elements in my songs and genre-breaking mixes that take the listener to another place.

Tomi PerrakoskiOkay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did you get your musical start, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

I have always been a music fanatic. I started listening to metal music when I was like eight/nine years old with bands like Kiss, Wasp, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, and later, Metallica, Testament, Kreator, Napalm Death, Death Angel, etc. It was kind of a dream come true to come into the music business; you just have to be brave and trust in what you do.  I was in two music projects before Magnadur, and they felt so light, I wanted to make harder songs, and the music I feel the closest to the real me. (I have bands Magnadur, Morbid Children, Houruva, and my solo project). From the start, I wanted to gain Listeners all over the world and go to the top!

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

I wanted from [my first] day as a musician to go as far as possible, and at this moment, I believe it more than ever, and the goal gets closer every day.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

I don’t have only one influencer on my mind. I think it’s the thing that Finnish bands have reached the top and gained so much attention in the metal audience that it has made me braver to push my limits and try to go there also! Bands like Amorphis, Children of Bodom, Him, Lordi, Wolfheart, Battle Beast, and Nightwish have done great work and are superstars!

Tomi PerrakoskiAh, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

We are just starting the live gigs at the end of the year or in 2026, so not much to tell yet about live performances. I have done lots of Live YouTube and Instagram, though, but they all went like I planned 🙂

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

[My] Favorite [song] I have recorded is “Hamlet”, I guess, and also, “Save me” has a special place in my heart, and “Alien inside” as it tells the true story of my mom’s fight with double cancer.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

I also make Viral Metal madness weekly podcast on Apple Podcasts that plays in 170 countries. I have made close to 70 episodes! Also, I am the European champion from 2010 in Raw powerlifting! I have hiked 38 of Finland’s National parks!

Tomi PerrakoskiWhat are you currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

My solo project is releasing my first album on July 11, 2025, called Diary of insanity. 12 amazing songs. My Magnadur band has a new album out on June 10, 2025, called Punishment of Hamlet. It’s a crazy, brutal album with strong stories! Also, my Morbid Children band has an album coming out on June 20, 2025, called Morbid Legacy. Lots of singles released before albums, so stay tuned!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

Thanks so much, it was my pleasure – Tomi Perrakoski
