“When we play for a crowd, we just have fun and make the best of the night whether its 10 or 100 people.” Ah, now that is what it’s all about it! On our 167th Q&A, we chat it up with Louisianan punk band, 🎙 Subliminal Landmines – that’s one bada$$ name, right? Can’t be a punk band without a cool name – just saying! Anyways, as we always do, we get some great insight into the collective’s beginnings, influences, visions, and of course, what they’ve been cooking up and plan to cook up in the future.  So, we needn’t waste nary a minute more with this intro! Let’s jump right TF into 🎤 Getting to Know… Subliminal Landmines: Interview No. 167 🤘!

Starting things off right, for those who may not be familiar with Subliminal Landmines, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 I think what really makes us unique as a band is the kind of sound we make when we all play together and just the energy and attitude that we have when we play especially in front of an audience. Our influences are all so similar, yet you can hear the differences in the songs that we make. When we play for a crowd, we just have fun and make the best of the night whether its 10 or 100 people.

Subliminal Landmines [📷: Subliminal Landmines]Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Subliminal Landmines form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 The band got started in 2017 whenever Grant dropped out of college and wanted to put more focus into music in his free time. Him and his friend Zach (First Vocalist) went to hang up fliers around Lafayette and had a few auditions and eventually found a good fit. Our goals that early on were just to create some music and maybe play some shows. They were pretty broad goals because we were just starting out, but we have come so far since then.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Oh yes, our goals definitely changed because we are at a different level now when it comes to where we are. We have a whole new lineup except for Grant and we all now have a ton of experience in the music industry which we use to our advantage. Our goals are more detailed and have moved to the next level. Right now, some of our goals are to book a run of shows in the southern region of the US, write another full length, play a live stream show, and stuff like that. Obviously, the end goal is to be able to make music and play to our fans full time, but we have to work to get there.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Some of our biggest influences are Green Day, Blink-182. and Alkaline Trio. They each played a big part in our lives when it comes to listening and even writing music.

Subliminal Landmines [📷: Subliminal Landmines]Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Hmmmm one of the memories that will always stand out is when our original drummer (Tony) told us he wasn’t going to be coming play once of our shows that was 9 hours away…and we were already halfway there. So, we basically turned the show into a rock comedy act with me on guitar and vocals, and Tucker on drums (he borrowed some but he was there to play bass, not drums) so you can just imagine how bad our performance was

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 I think up to this point one of our favorite songs to play live that is recorded is 🎵 “P.S.A.”. It’s fast and catchy and when we reach the part when we switch to half-time after the solo it slams and is always fun to play. We haven’t got to play any of our songs from 💿 Gibberish live yet besides 🎵 “She May Be”.

Subliminal Landmines [📷: Subliminal Landmines]Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Nothing major, we love to make memes and videos with our pictures and music to entertain our fanbase. Other than that, our shows can get pretty crazy so let’s hope we can play a lot of them this year.

Closing this thing out, what is Subliminal Landmines currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 Currently we are working on getting together a live stream show with our fans and are even starting to write some new music. We released our full album Gibberish back in October of 2020 and will be playing it live at The Brickyard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 5 so let’s hope there’s more shows to come after this one. We have new merch coming out soon as well so be on the lookout for that.
