Stone SeaIn the 489th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the alternative rock band Stone Sea.

“Our secret sauce is fat riffs, deep grooves, and melody-driven songs with touches of world music.”
Awesome sauce, Stone Sea, specifically singer, guitarist, and founder Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso, who answers our burning questions regarding the alternative rock band, originally formed in São Paulo, Brazil. Interestingly, this marks the second interview with the band, who were first interviewed back in 2020. Bonesso provides an inside scoop on Stone Sea’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know…Stone Sea: Interview No. 489!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Stone Sea distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso: Our secret sauce is fat riffs, deep grooves, and melody-driven songs with touches of world music. Live, we like to make people “driftbang” (laughs) — a mix of headbanging and drifting at the same time.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Stone Sea form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

Bonesso: I started Stone Sea in Brazil years ago out of a need and passion to express myself. The real identity of the band, however, formed in Ireland, where I lived for almost a decade and was exposed to many different cultures. That gave the sauce to it, I suppose, Stone Sea in Brazil was quite raw.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Bonesso: Back then, I wanted to be a rockstar (laughs). Nowadays, I think that’d suck to be honest. I mean, I’d still love to live by my music, but I wouldn’t like to be in the spotlight to be judged for anything I do or say – I’m a human like any other, and I’ll probably mess up or say something I shouldn’t at some stage. My opinions are constantly changing as I grow as well; I can’t afford to have people judging me for something I said 10 years ago. In other words, right now I just want to play my music to as many people as feel connected to it.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

Bonesso: Black Sabbath is the seed — everything starts there for me. But I also draw from grunge, 70’s psychedelia, blues, and classical music. Outside of rock, I’m inspired by traditional music from around the world — Brazilian rhythms, Arabic scales, Indian instrumentation — all of which add color to the way I approach riffs and melodies.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Bonesso: We played a festival in Limerick called Siege of Limerick, and during our last song, there was a guy — likely very drunk — screaming “HEY” on every single bar of the song until the end. Like, literally EVERY BAR OF THE SONG UNTIL THE END. I loved it and found that extremely funny. I probably have that video recorded somewhere.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Bonesso: “Mystify will always be a banger live. Recording-wise, my favorite is still “Dream Song” — for the music itself, I think it’s a great achievement as a composer, as it depicts quite well a dreamy state of mind. That said, “Age of Tears” is becoming my new favorite for both recording and live performance. We’re releasing it as I answer this interview. It’s musically complex, intense, and lyrically deeply meaningful to me. Pure bomb live.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Stone Sea? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Bonesso: Besides being a musician, I also work as a sound designer and composer for video games. So, when I’m not making riffs, I’m crafting ambient soundscapes, explosions, or sounds for fantasy characters. I also speak three languages — and I can’t make a single joke in any of them (laughs).

Stone Sea

What is Stone Sea currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Bonesso: We’re releasing our new album Ad Astra piece by piece — one song per month, leading up to the full release in January [2026]. The latest singles, “Alien” and “Age of Tears”, are out now, and we’ll be performing around Andalusia to celebrate them. There’s also a live video session in the works, and a few more surprises for early 2026.
