“My music is very raw, and I try to convey powerful emotions and concepts like anger, despair, sadism, nihilism.” Awesome, 🎙 Sorrow Enthroned! The one-man, extreme metal act further characterizes the darkness of his craft: “I also study the occult and so that trickles into the music as well.” Oh, snap 🫰! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on Sorrow Enthroned’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Sorrow Enthroned: Interview No. 342!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Sorrow Enthroned distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I am in the realm of black and death metal, it combines elements of each. It’s not necessarily unique, I am pretty much paying homage to my favorite bands. My music is very raw, and I try to convey powerful emotions and concepts like anger, despair, sadism, nihilism etc. I also study the occult and so that trickles into the music as well, I wrote an entire album about it.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Sorrow Enthroned form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

Early on it was more of a hobby and learning how to make songs, now its something that overcomes my life. I have been playing guitar since I was young and wanted to give songwriting a try. For the first album, I was using an electric drum kit, I learned very basic drums for about a year and since then I have started programming midi drums.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

I have grown as a person along with evolving the sound, nowadays I’m focused on making heavier music. I want to keep making albums and refine the sound over time. I’m learning to have more fun with the whole process as songwriting and recording can be tedious

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

I love bands like morbid angel, defeated sanity, dying fetus, dark funeral. I have been listening to metal all of my life, nothing else really scratches that itch. I’m probably going to start making a morbid angel cover.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

I have not played live yet.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

My favorite song I’ve written so far is unreleased at this point in time, called 🎵 “Shit Custard”. I’m proud of the riffs and brutal death metal inspired lyrics. It is simple enough to play, and I am trying to learn how to create powerful music with simplicity.

Sorrow EnthronedIs there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

I’ve been using the same pick for jamming/recording for a few years now, obtained at a show thrown into the crowd by the acacia strain’s guitarist, as well as one from suffocation.

Closing out, what is Sorrow Enthroned currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Album number 3 is being written; it is almost exclusively death metal. The general themes and overall sound of each full length is quite different from each other. The debut was raw black metal with a lot of melody and tremolo riffs, and an overall hopeless atmosphere. The second full length still had black metal elements but had more variety of sound and incorporated more death metal and brutal death metal elements. The upcoming release has mostly stripped the black metal and there is some slam in there. It is very different than my other releases and with this album I am just enjoying myself and writing fun heavy riffs without being so anal about the songwriting

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

Thank you.
